“Birthday week-end trip”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate my birthday and so we could visit Oxford, Blenheim Palace and Stratford. The Howard Arms is situated in a picturesque village and we had a lovely stay. The room was big yet quaint (antique furniture and a half tester bed), the food excellent (esp. the breakfasts which were the best we'd ever been offered) and all the staff helpful and friendly. The bar area had a log fire, the restaurant area was cosy and there was a lovely garden. It was close enough for us to visit all the places I've mentioned (Oxford was 1 hour away) but we could come back to an idyllic rural retreat at the end of the day. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The Village room (no 3) is upstairs and overlooks the village green. It is quite big with a squashy...

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Excellent menu and wine list, really helpful staff and beautiful, character-filled, comfortable rooms. Beautiful setting. We would definitely stay here again. A great place to get away from it all....

I had been recommended the Howard Arms by several friends as a perfect place to stay if visiting Stratford on Avon. We stayed one night and had dinner and breakfast.
The room was spacious, comfortable and equipped with all the necessary add ons, including iPod facility and internet access.
The dinner menu had a good choice with locally sourced ingredients that were cooked as requested and served by helpful and engaging staff. Four of us ate dinner and we were all delighted with our individual choices. The wine list was straightforward and very reasonably priced.
Breakfast was a tour de force with delicious sausages, bacon, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms.
All staff were helpful. I shall certainly return.

We have stayed here three times now and have tried different rooms and never been disappointed. The rooms are tastefully decorated and well equipped. The restaurant has a lovely cosy atmosphere but with relaxed service and a cosy log fire in the bar. Whatever the occasion, this place is very special.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the green have the best views.

I cannot praise the experience my wife and I had highly enough. From the professional, friendly telephone booking right through to the friendly adieu from our waitress, everything was perfect.

This is a terrific venue with lovely log fire & matching warm ambience produced by its popularity and genial staff. We spent 2 1/2 happy hours over dinner and enjoyed every minute.

There was a good selection of local ales and the discount for CAMRA members was noted. The wine list was very good with most supplied by the glass or bottle. We had a crisp Italian Chardonnay that complemented our starters of ricotta & roast vegetable timbale and crab & salmon fish cakes. The delicate flavours were a perfect, light start to our meal and we were served efficiently.

For mains, a glass of the velvety Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon to go with loin of lamb and wild mushroom & broccoli strudel with a side of champ potatoes. Sublime.

We shared the melt in the mouth chocolate truffle cake and a glass of Taylor's port.

Well deserving a mention here is our waitress Beckie. She really ensured we had a good evening, making suggestions and always appearing at exactly the right moment.

We will return. Next time with friends and family in tow!
