“Shame the possibilities were not delivered upon”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

We stayed two nights here in August 2014. As you drive into the grounds the promise of staying somewhere special is evident from the view of the main house and gardens. However upon check in the promise fades as the interior of the hotel is a far cry from the promise offered from outside. The décor is dated, faded, worn and above all could do with a deep steam clean. Our rooms, while spacious, left a lot to be desired in terms of cleanliness. The bathroom décor was chipped and faded paintwork, the one positive factor was the power of the shower. The breakfast dining area was the poorest aspect of the hotel. The cutlery, glasses, cups etc were in urgent need of a serious wash and the piling of used plates and cutlery on empty tables gave a really poor impression as to the efficiency being brought to bear in this crucial function of any hotel. It is such a shame that given the wonderful location they have, the possibilities of creating a truly memorable experience have been at best wasted or at worst ignored.

We recently stayed here, using a wowcher. We paid £69 for a large room, use of the spa, dinner including a bottle of wine and full English breakfast. What a bargain.
We would definitely stay again and would recommend it.

Together with my wife, we have recently stayed at the Boswell Hall Hotel in Market Bosworth and were bitterly disappointed. I booked the hotel because of the beautiful house set in the quiet countryside, which the cover picture represents. The house is absolutely beautiful but it is misleading to us, the customer. The hotel was actually an old converted hospital complex around the back which is not really apparent when we were booking the room online.

The approach to the reception from the car park has pot holes and the surface in dire need of resurfacing. The reception area was a pleasant area with lovely carved wood decor. The receptionist asked my name three times before finding our details on the reservation list. We were handed our key and given directions to our room. We walked through the lounge, bar area and restaurant and were appalled at the poor condition of the furniture and carpets, for example the leather style sofa's had black masking tape patching them up and the carpets on the stairs to our floor had black masking tape on the edges, a health and safety disaster waiting to happen if ever I saw one. The hall to our room was dark and dingy. Everywhere the painted woodwork needed repainting, the wallpaper was in great need of replacing, and the carpets also needing to be replaced. There were a great many pictures on the wall of varying styles and charm, mostly in the old and out dated category.

Our room was not at all representative of the pictures and falls into the categories mentioned above, it was desperately in need of refurbishment. The wall paper was a cheap wallpaper which failed to impress. The pictures on the wall were lacking a theme and were evidently from a bric-a-brac stall. The sliding mirrored door wardrobe was faulty and could not be closed properly. The bedside lamps had shades that did not match. The frame around the mirror had dirty marks which appeared to have been there fore a very long time. The bed lacked a valance to cover up the bed legs. The television was of the old style (which worked okay) however looked as if it had been plonked in the room with little thought just to say it was an extra service provided. The paintwork was again desperately in need of being redone. The curtains were awful and also in need of replacing and were dirty. The room is not sound proof and we were able to hear clearly what other residents were saying walking past our room. The toilet was dirty when we first arrived. The positive side to the room was that the shower was very good and the bed was very comfortable.

We did not eat at the hotel restaurant thankfully as there was a long queue at the carvery. We went out and enjoyed a lovely meal at a local pub instead. On our return we were greeted by the noise of a wedding reception in a marquee at the back of the main house. Thumping music all evening through to the middle of the night. So much for a country hotel and our quiet weekend away in the country!

I have asked for our money back but having read other reviews about Britannia hotels I doubt that I will get a reply. The email address mentioned in another review customer.services@britanniahotels.com did not work so I used the reservations email address instead and sent a copy to Alex Langsam of Britannia Hotels as well.

Room Tip: Ask if there is a function or wedding reception happening and if there is ask for a room around the...

We purchased a groupon deal for 2nights in a standard room, dinner, breakfast and spa access. We were very impressed when we drove up to the hall - beautiful setting. Welcome was friendly. However, when we opened the door to our hotel room we were hit with a wall of heat and the smell of chip fat. The room was very small, we couldn't open the window as the heat and smell of chip fat was so awful. We had to close the curtains to try and keep the smell out! Bathroom wasn't particularly clean. It made me feel quite sick so we asked for a room change. The staff kindly upgraded us to a suite, which was light, airy and clean.
Jenny's carvery didn't look or smell very appetising for dinner so we went out in to market bosworth. Unfortunately we didn't have much luck with breakfast either and decided to again eat out. Lots of complaints flying about from other customers who had eaten there which put us off.
It seems such a shame as the building is so beautiful and it could be a lovely experience. We won't be returning again and unfortunately I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I'll make this brief. The reviews of this hotel are all valid. To start with the positives:
1. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. Our stay this weekend (22nd Aug 2014) was full of sun and complemented our surroundings.
2. The front desk was busy but the member of staff dealing with us was friendly and attentive.
3. The room (129) was spacious and clean.
4. We arrived at 1.30 and ate at Jenny's Carvery (which was a self service buffet). The food was average but plentiful and at £6 for 3 courses, a bargain!
5. There are some great little quiet areas for relaxing and a cool little cocktail bar.

On to the negatives:
1. The staff. On the whole we didn't have much contact with them but one of the front desk staff was too busy chatting to her friend while the queue built up and the restaurant manager may have had her training at Fawlty Towers! Rude, quite scary and unapproachable.

2. 50% of the hotel was beautiful but the overall concensus is that it is very tired looking (1980's stripes, worn out carpets, the TV was from the 90's, shabby furniture in the room).

3. Room 129 has a generator outside and there is a constant hum which can be irritating.

So Britannia Hotels get the staff and the hotel up to date and I'm sure people will pay twice the amount to stay. Lots of potential but lacking in innovative investment.

We visited the hotel using a Groupon deal. We have had some really lovely hotel stays - using this service.
Bosworth was steeped in history and the grounds were lovely. The spa was also lovely. However, everything need a touch of TLC. We ate at Jenny's Carvery and unfortunately, this is were a decent hotel stay, fell flat on its face. The food was dreadful, over cooked vegetables and nothing had any taste to it. It was like the worst type of canteen food and the food was most certainly frozen; not fresh.
We did have a Groupon deal and did not pay a huge amount of money, but I can't honestly say that I wish we hadn't bothered.
What a shame.
