Stayed for three nights in Feb 2010 for a wrok trip. The location is lovely, the buildings look nice and the grounds are gorgeous. The rooms were very cold, even with the dated electric heaters on full' and bedding was old style single blanket and bedspread rather than duvet. The room we had in the stable block was particularly cold seemingly diue to the large window in the room. The stable room was also charged at a premium over the room we had in the coach house which was actually far larger (?)
The restaurant was an enigma - Fantastic food on night one, very average on night two. I had the same dish both nights as it was so perfect the first time (chicken with risotto and potato dauphegnua). As I said, on night one the meal was wonderful, on night two the risotto was flavourless, the potatoes burnt and the subtle dark mushroom sauce had evolved into what seemed like beef gravy with mushrroms in it. Different chefs perhaps???
Service at front desk was polite and attentive, in the restaurant it was also mainly good although we had dinner one night at 7pm when the restaurant opened and our drinks/food order was not taken until 7:20pm. People on other tables were offered bread to start but we weren't.
On the second night we explained we were in a rush and service was notably faster.
