Whilst visiting my girlfriend we decided to have a quick look in the pub a few minutes walk from her house which neither of us had visited before. From the outside it looks very welcoming and friendly. Upon entering the pub it appeared to be split into two different areas (a bar area and a restaurant area). As we approached the bar we were given a friendly and warm welcome to the place by the bar staff. They had 3 ales on tap and some different lagers, a good choice of bottled drinks and a nice array of wines. We decided to have a bottle of house red and was offered the choice of which type. As we were unsure the girl behind the bar kindly offered if we would like a taste of them and see which we liked. My girlfriend and I were very impressed with this as its unusual to be allowed to try house wines before buying them. We settled for the Shiraz which came to £14.95. Although it may seem to some people to be quite expensive for a house wine it was really good. We had a quick look around the place to see where we would like to sit and ended up in the restaurant area which had dimmed lights to create a more dining room atmosphere. There was a nice range of music playing in the background which also added to the atmosphere of the place. We decided to have a quick look through the menus which included a kids menu, a lunchtime menu, a snacks menu and a full meal menu which included starters, mains, desserts and tea/coffee. The only menu that was missing was a wine menu although if you asked for one and they had one they would bring it over. We chose to have 2 mains from the lunch menu which was part of a lunchtime deal of 2 meals for £6.95. The meals came around 20 minutes later which was fine as there were lots of tables with big groups of people. The waitresses gave us space but were available when required. When the meals came up the plate and food were piping hot and was warned that the plates would be hot. Condiments were of salt and pepper in pots and sauces in packets in a small bucket. We both found the meals to be really nice and tasty although I felt the chips could of some with some seasoning as they tasted a little bland. About 10 minutes later the waitress came over and asked if everything was ok. When we asked for the bill it was bought over promptly. Our waitress was very honest as when I paid with a five pound note another one was wrapped up inside it which she bought back to us. We was offered desserts and more drinks but we had to unfortunately leave. We will definitely be going back there due to the good service, food and value for money. We would like to go back there in evening for a romantic meal and see what the atmosphere will be like.
