“Good value an I would come back”
Reviewed 8 April 2011

I walked from the train station few minutes. Me an colleague stayed 3
nights, I can't fault the staff they were so keen to impress so that's appalling what the lady centurion called them,. Food was good a lot of choice limited rose wine choice but the house was ok an the italian nearby is worth visiting. Do have the breakfast because its cooked and not a buffet sat there for hours. An I would say book taxis in advance with hotel seems its really busy in the morning.

The only negative thing about this hotel was the length of the queue to check in. I had a small double room but it was well designed and felt spacious -it had everything you would need. The shower was excellent and the bed comfy, excellent television with freeview built in DVD just what i need to watch DVD bought on the day. The food was excellent and service very friendly and unobtrusive. Great menu very well priced, the food was better than some 5* hotels that i have stayed. Will be back very soon for more...

Reception area had strong smell of curry, almost matched by the same smell in the room. Duvet cover dirty, overall impression was that cleanliness is not high on list of priorities e.g. Dirty coffee cup in room presumably from last person who stayed. Pictures on their web site are far from reality. I spent 10 minutes in the room ringing round to find another hotel and left. I had to reluctantly pay for the room as the management refused to accept my reasons for leaving. Avoid this one if you can.

Stayed for one night, wished we hadn't. Plus points - car park, location, breakfast. Negatives - everything else. Bedroom was first floor, overlooking main road at front of hotel. Room was quite spacious, but shabby, tired and dirty. (At least the sheets were clean). Net curtain with huge hole in it, main curtains hung so badly that they would not close properly to cover the windows. Torn and peeling wallpaper, peeling paintwork, toilet seat not fixed to pan, towel rail broken off wall, only one out of three lights worked. Returning to the hotel in the late evening we discovered a very loud party was underway in the bar/restaurant area, which unfortunately was directly below our room. There were a number of people gathered around the entrance and vomit on the steps! After a decent breakfast we checked out and mentioned the room problems to the receptionist, who said that there was no manager onsite at the moment and that he could not help.

This hotel showed an AA 3 star rating and looked nice from the outside. The ground floor has recently been refurbished and looks lovely - great job. The spacious double room looked clean with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuit sachet, a table, 2 chairs, desk, modern tv. English breakfast was good too. The first night was fine, although the mattress needs to be replaced as we kept going downhill and meeting in the middle, so tried to sleep on the edge. Also, we only had one bath towel and one hand towel for two of us. On the second evening we went into the room, no-one had been in to change towels or beverage tray (luckily we had brought some of our own) etc. On the third evening we got in (around 9pm) the towels and beverage tray still had not been touched! Told reception about the towels as we had already shared the one bath towel between us both for two days now, and also about the beverage tray. A gentleman brought us up some clean towels and beverage tray to which he was very surprised no-one had been in the room to sort these out or make the bed etc. So we settled down again and I made a coffee and then discovered the (just arrived) packet of normally two biscuits in it, was opened and contained one biscuit - by this point, we had had a long couple of days and this was really sloppy service. On checking out, I mentioned the towels/beverage tray etc to the morning receptionist and was told that they didn't go into the room because we didn't hand in our key at reception! - so take note. This was a new one on us, we were never told this and nor was it noted anywhere. Other observations which may bother others and wouldn't cost a lot to fix was there was no iron, no lid on the toilet, a partial tile missing in the corner of the bathroom and the sink had no plug (but they brought us up a loose one with a chain).

I would just like to raise some grave concerns about this hotel. The hotel although it says it is undergoing refurbishment, however not published on internet is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We asked to move rooms three times as the accommodation was unsafe, dirty and unkempt. Our third room (the best of the bunch) the door a fire door was only just on its hinges, did not open or close easily, fire escape routes had tables in the corridor which blocked exits, no bathroom light, plug for sink missing, paint flaking off walls (not just slight but the whole wall!) ceiling paper hanging off, kettle not working but wired into mains with exposed wires, the telephone unit had a base only no handset so we could not make an emergency call if we needed to. Friends had milk that was off in the room, biscuits had thick dust over. The hotel is a health and safety nightmare. The hotel is displayed as a AA 3 star, I would not give it any and would recommend it is investigate and shut before someone gets seriously hurt. It is certainly not comfortable, clean and friendly. The dust and cobwebs, dirt, dodgy electrics, flickering corridor lights, no emergency lighting, telephone points in dinning room open and exposed is not acceptable.

I feel although the hotel says it is undergoing a refurbishment this is an excuse that health and safety and hygiene is not adhered to. I feel someone could have a nasty illness or accident from this hotel. It should be on hotels from hell. Surely this hotel is breaching the fire safety regulations act, health and safety act. Basic health is safety is ignored putting peoples welfare in jeopardy I do not think it should receive any grade. The hotel knew fully the problems I raised as others had complained before me that day and will do so after, they do not care. Other guests asked to be moved and complained in the morning of faulty lights, equipment and poor hygiene.
