“Real pleasure again”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

A trip to the home of so many Ryder Cups is always a pleasure. A group of 8 had one night and 2 rounds of golf (the Brabazon, always a pleasure and this time the PGA national - amazing that a links style course can be created next to a parkland course but the real favourite is the former). This time the hotel is in it's new guise and it does look the part and breakfast was a pleasure as well.

I did find the rooms, which did look very nice a bit strange though, very tiny wardrobes (even though many guests clearly only stay for 1 night) and the showers, again look great but for a 6 footer, they are a struggle to get underneath comfortably! The bars, again look great but don't expect change from £5 a pint.

That all said I will be happy to return, very enjoyable, thank you.

Room Tip: Can't comment as I have not scene enough.

We stayed here for a night for my husband's 30th birthday in the St Andrews suite. The whole hotel refurb has been done to an extremely high standard and the room was no exception, with a roll top bath and veranda overlooking the golf course.
The evening meal was very nice with staff in the restaurant and all the bars being very attentive.
While my husband had a round on the Brabazon course I visited the new spa for a treatment, both of which were beyond expectations.
This is a pricey place to stay and golf but as a treat it delivered everything we were looking for.

We visited the belfry on a travel zoo deal of £99 for a night's accommodation, round of golf and brekkie for two people. We got married the week before and this was an excellent mini-honeymoon destination, with high quality bedroom (Torrance House) and access to the pool area, on top of the excellent golf course. Would definitely recommend the Belfry and hope to go back again soon.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a TA review, especially the ‘excellent’ heading we received.

Travelzoo along with other promotional offers have been extremely popular and I was delighted that you chose us for your mini-honeymoon destination; congratulations on your marriage.

Many thanks for the recommendation.

Went here on a ladies golfing break. Golf on all three course good with as you would expect the Bramazon exceptional. Our Room was on the third floor with numerous doors to go through to reach the room which was rather tedious, also there was No lift. Room was very small for a twin with no air com although the hotel had been recently refurbished. In the bathroom there was no fan so it became very steamed up. Hotel reception and bar area excellent although check in was very slow as only 2 check in areas open.

Staff overall very friendly. Food on the evening self service buffet which was average but the breakfast excellent, everything you could think of they even had poached eggs!

They charge for wi if which for a hotel of this stature would say was ridiculous.

Dear sangibbs

Many thanks for the TA reviewf.

All thoughts are most welcome and I appreciate the honesty in your comments, especially the Brabazon being ‘exceptional’; fantastic!
The additional room and wifi comments, I sense, left you a little underwhelmed though which is regrettable on our part.
Your conclusion however, I see that you found the breakfast excellent and I would hope that overall this means a return visit to us is something you would consider? I do hope so.

With best wishes
Lynn

Stayed a couple of weeks ago for £99 which included room upgrade, evening meal, breakfast and the choice of a round of golf or spa treatment.
Food is on a buffet basis for both meals but don,t let that put you off as the quality was excellent.
Room was a superior and had french windows which opened straight on to a patio opposite the 1st tee, Spa was clean with a nice pool and cafe .
Overall an excellent bargain in a nice setting with attentive staff.

Room Tip: would book a superior , I think only suites have air con if this is important

Despite the approx £26million refurbishment of the hotel, I was astounded that the only restaurant is a buffet style which is also used for breakfast...very American in design with very little atmosphere (evening). The food was barely warm. Our package deal was for 2 courses but we didn't have a choice as to whether we could have a starter or a dessert, we were advised that if we wanted a dessert we would be charged extra! The starter course was limited to soup or salad. I cannot understand how a hotel of this size could not have an intimate, classy dining restaurant for those guests who firstly want to make the 'day' end with a wonderful dining experience and secondly those who want a romantic evening!
My self and friend went mainly for the spa experience. The spa facilities are very good however we had both spent 4 days trying to get through to book extra treatments but kept getting the answering machine. Having both of us leaving messages...NO-ONE phoned us back and we didn't get the extra spa treatments we would have liked.
The room (1511) was fine although the attention to detail (considering the refurb costs in 2013) was somewhat lacking around the door leading out to the gardens - bad paintwork etc.
Again for a hotel of this kind, I was amazed at the COST of wi-fi, I have stayed in smaller hotels and they have all included FREE wi-fi, this issue needs to be addressed.
I would like to mention Paul on reception who eventually checked us in after we had been waiting over 15 mins due to the fact that there were only 2 girls on reception who were dealing with guests who seemed to have 'issues'. He was helpful and friendly.
My friend and I only stayed the one night (Sunday) as the hotel was fully booked and we couldn't get the saturday night. We did stay the saturday night at the Lea Marston (2 miles away). Their restaurant was lovely, the staff extremely attentive and pleasant and the food great. If we stayed at the Belfry again which we would consider due only to the Fire and Ice/Spa experience, we would go to the Lea Marston for dinner and not eat in the Belfry.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near Sam's bar as it is noisy and next to the toilets - rooms 1508. 1509, 1510, 1511

Dear NewDay09

Thank you for taking the time to complete a TA review.

Having read through your detail regarding the dining concept here I would like to highlight that there are a la carte offerings in addition to the promotion offers that encompass set menus. I am not too sure if you were aware of this or not?

Thank you for your kind words regarding Paul at the front desk he will be delighted.

I would like to offer my apologies for your spa booking frustrations, and the noise issues your room location experienced, all these points are taken on board and I hope that we could be given the opportunity to rectify in future and avoid you relocating your stay to a neighbouring hotel.

Please keep us in mind,
Thank you once again,

Regards
Lynn

We stayed here on a Sunday night on deal from Secret Escapes, £99 for dinner, bed & breafast. Room was spacious (superior room) and clean, comfy bed and excellent shower though shame there wasn't a bath. Dinner was a buffet - not good for veggies but roasts were good for carnivores! Breakfast buffet was one of the best we've had. Bar very expensive so stayed sober! Bit of a cheek - they charge extortionate rates for wi-fi.

Dear JeannieG59

Thank you for taking the time to complete a TA review.

Following your visit via the Secret Escapes offer, I appreciate the elements of your feedback balanced by your service pricing thoughts, but also I am happy that overall you felt it was value for money? (I hope I have interpreted that correctly) and that you will keep an eye out for future offers, also via our webpages, and return to us.

Kind regards
