Stayed at the Ocean Hotel Bognor 26th through to 28th July 3 nights £742. 2 adults 3 children aged 13, 4 , and 2. Needless to say the 2 and 4 year olds eat less than a mouse. Stayed in Room 223, upon arrival i had to go back to reception 3 times as the key would not work, they had to reprogram the lock in the end. Had resonating water pipes all day and all night long which kept us awake, nobody came to fix it and is probably still resonating. Most of the staff are now Eastern European who cannot understand you or, do not know anything when asked. This is not their fault, but Butlins Management should recognise that they have a communication problem rather than guests thinking they are just emplying cheap labour to keep their costs down. . There were 5500 people the weekend we stayed, the resort is just not geared up for that amount of people. At Splash waterword we had to queue for 20 mins to get in. In fact we queued for everything. Breakfast, Dinner, shows, you name it we queued. Instead of building more and more hotels Butlins should ensure that the old existing facilites can cope with these numbers, Clearly they cannot. B Line passes ( had we payed for this it was going to cost us an extra £80 for the 3 days ) It sets the masses apart and is an insult to the families who cannot afford such luxuries. I witnessed a massive queue for the Sesame Street evening show, i don't think everybody understood the reality of standing around queuing for an hour only to have 100 or so people rock up and walk in fornt of them. Needless to say people were not happy with the arrangement. Families looked like they were running for their lives to get a decent seat after the posher families had gone in first. At these prices families should not have to do that, but so long as Butlins can extract that little bit more out of you, then thats ok. ohh and I forgot to mention the grab machines on the Friday were 20p and on the Saturday the same machine overnight had gone up to 30p. It appears that the Grab machine fairy had forgotten that they had 5500 people in, lets quickly put the prices up ! ! ! I. The Butlins Store remarkably looks like The Disney store not sure Disney would approve but its another way of getting your kids through the door to spend more money. Went to use the Bar in the Ocean at 10:30pm on the Sunday night only to be told that they had shut for the day. Whatever happened to the bar being open until the last resident had left ??? Billy Butlin promised a weeks holiday for a weeks wage back in the day, and everything was included. Sadly those days are gone and i would say looking down the events map 30% of activities you now have to pay for, even the kids bungee jump at £4 a pop is a P take. Did i mention the two lifts that service an entire hotel, work that one out for yourselves. On another note he Butlins Butlers were fantastic and Obviously the kids were oblivious to all the costs and problems, however they enjoyed themsleves immensely.
