“One night stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2013

Visiting family this was the nearest hotel we could find. Pleasantly surprised. Room was a good size and very clean. Breakfast was very good didn't try dinner. Floorboards did creak, but you should expect this in a hotel over 100 years old. Well situated for the seafront and town with free parking on site. Seems popular with coach trips. All in all a very pleasant overnight stay. Please ignore marks for swimming pool or fitness centre, there aren't any.

A big grand hotel of the old school royal visit from times past style. Right on the promenade.

The room was relatively small although it did have a very imposing 4 poster bed. Other than the bed the room was basic. TV was tiny and would have benefitted binoculars to see it from the bed. Basic decor and not even any pictures on the walls. Wall lights looked old fashioned but think they are catering for an older client base, judging by the general decor and the coaches parked outside!

Due to the built in wardrobe there was only a bedside table on one side of he bed.

The bathroom was a little dated, the shower was run straight from the taps, not very powerful and difficult to get a consistent temperature.

Service however was fast an friendly - breakfast was served almost as soon as I ordered it. However the maid did try and come in to clean the room before 9am even though we were checking out at 11. Thankfully she left to come back later. The previous evening there was a 45 minute spell here one bar closed but he other hadn't opened. Typically that was he time we wanted a drink and a little surprising that you can't get a drink in a hotel at 7pm on a Saturday!!

The fire alarm went off disturbingly early on the Sunday morning, 6:24am to be precise and no explanation or apology was forthcoming. I think it would have been nice to have at least have it recognised.

Overall it was clean and adequate, but could have been so much more, if only the bedroom matched the grandeur of the external look.

Stayed for 2 nights during Glorious Goodwood week.

Whilst booking in, the party in front of us were also horse racing fans. We all asked for a Racing Post to be delivered. Receptionist advised us that we "don't do Racing Posts". Why, considering a large percentage of the guests we met were racing buffs. Poor management. Surely they must realise that glorious Goodwood week means horse racing clientele.

This is a clean, outdated hotel which caters for older people on short coach outings.

Presume the management have made the decision not to update it as I would imagine the majority of it's target market would be happy with it in it's current condition

The evening entertainment was an embarrassment. Stayed for all of 10 seconds!

Not all bad though if you understand the type of outdated hotel you are booking in to.

Good parking, excellent sea front location, fried breakfast ok, waitress charming. Rooms large but old fashioned.

Would I return?

Yes if I wanted a reasonably priced, clean hotel but would not recommend without giving the caveats outlined above.

Stayed at the Hotel while on a visit to the Festival of Speed at Goodwood. Hotel was clean and staff friendly. The room was comfortable and ensuite appeared to be relatively new. Breakfast was good with table service and a great start for a long day out.
Unable to rate evening meals as the restaurant was closed by the time we returned to the Hotel.
The hotel bar closed early on both nights we stayed, which was a disappointment.
Hotel location was pretty good with plenty of parking and the fresh air by the sea was very welcome after hot days at Goodwood. Slightly surprised at the lack of visible promotion for the events at Goodwood House. which is only some 10 miles away.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have a sea view - our twin room overlooked the service yard, which wasn't that imp...

We travelled to Bognor on Saturday morning arriving at Midday at the hotel, parked in an ample roomed car park and went into reception to let them know we were here. To our delight our room was ready, which we didn't expect so we were able put our bags into our room & not have to worry later on, then off to Glorious Goodwood we went. Hotel very central with a 10 min walk to train station.

Upon our return later that evening had a couple of drinks in the bar before retiring for the night. Very clean room & bathroom. Comfortable bed, good hot shower.

A waitress service breakfast with plenty to choose from, fruit, cereal, tea & coffee, full English or continental also vegetarian options too.

We found all staff to be friendly and wanting to make your stay a memorable one, which indeed it was & if we were to be in this area again will certainly go back. Definitely would recommend to friends & family.

Thank you Royal Norfolk.

Stayed for 2 nights during Goodwood Festival of Speed. Quite a handy location, about 20 mins or so drive away and nice seafront location, although this part of Bognor a bit past its best. First impressions are of an attractive and imposing old building quite well maintained. Good sized car park on site. Reception staff are friendly and efficient and happy to recommend places to eat. This good as we were told restaurant closes early. In fact we were never back early enough to sample so can 't comment on this. Hotel seems to have had a bit of a makeover perhaps in 2011 as that date in new lift, however style is a bit conservative and dated- this is no boutique hotel! Nevertheless it was clean and comfortable and our second floor room was same. Small TV, tea facilities and newish bathroom- no complaints. Age of hotel shows with very creaky floorboards in corridor though when people walk past.
Breakfast is served very efficiently and has usual choices of toast, cereals and hot food. Full english of only average quality; catering sausage, cheap sauces in sachets and coffee not too pleasant - tasted instant to me. They seem to cater for older people and coach parties and have entertainment accordingly. Bar closed too early for us to have a nightcap at 11.00 on Saturday night.
