An immediate feeling is one of calm and relaxation. Just imagine yourself back intime around 100 years ago beautiful buildings and surroundings but with the added bonus of some sneaked in mod cons. You won't be 5 star pampered but you really don't need it here that's not what this place is about. Snuggle up with a good book in front of your own real live log fire and a G and T that's the very different feel of bailffscourt. Pop over to the spar which has a bit of a wow factor or walk down to the deserted beach and breath the sea air.
Loved it if anything it had one slight drawback for me in that the restaurant albeit very beautiful didn't really inspire me from the menu point of view looked and sounded great but not that inspiring. Would I go back well possibly but it's quite expensive so maybe not but a great experience and fond memories.

We treated my mum for afternoon tea for her birthday - there was four in our party. On arrival we were told that we should choose one of the reserved tables which had been set up prior to our arrival so we picked a suitable table for four. We decided on the celebration tea which included a glass of sparkling wine which was excellent. The tea was brought out in two large teapots with another pot of hot water. Then two plates of sandwiches arrived followed by two cake stands with home made scones, jam, lemon curd and clotted cream and delicious pastries and cakes. As the sandwiches were so delicious we asked for more and received a further two full plates and a further pot of tea. Our servers were courteous and efficient.

Baliffscourt have a Sunday lunch menu so I asked to see the restaurant for future reference. The restaurants look lovely so we will be going in the not too distant future.

We also asked to look at the spa which looks good so a spa day might be in the offing too!

All in all, we found Baliffscourt to have a lovely relaxed atmosphere and I'd have no hesitation in recommending for afternoon tea. Living in London, I've been to some nice places for afternoon tea but Baliffscourt is the best value at £24 (an additional £11 for the sparkling wine which is a full glass and worth it for a celebration).

Visited as a surprise birthday treat. Loved the place from the moment we drove in. Warm welcome and had a pre lunch drink and perused the menu in an ante room, history oozing out of the stone walls. Taken to the restaurant which is large and bright and had a wonderful set lunch with very very nice wine. We had not indicated when booking it was a birthday treat but this was picked up when we sat down to eat and when the dessert course arrived "Happy Birthday" was piped in chocolate on the birthday boy's plate. A very nice touch. We loved our lunch and will definitely visit again. Next time we want to try the spa too. Note for those over 6' tall: mind your head, this is a very olde worlde establishment with door heights in keeping with the period. Additional observation: it is a longer than usual distance from the dining room to the ladies and gents.

Decided to return here after a a 9 year break but we have been here 6 times before so know it well from dare i say the old days ... Then it was easy 4 stars we always felt special coming here . This time December 2016 we found it very odd. Dont get me wrong this is a lovely venue and staff are lovely and cant fault the food but il continue . everything was the same as before which gets the thumbs up but firstly our bedroom door only just locked by the skin of its teeth which made us abit wary of in the night. We were in the outside n shaped buildings. Going into the main building its really nice and old and staff are great i just dont like the non visible bar as it is in some sort of cupboard and when im paying 5 star hotel prices for a champagne cocktail i want to see it being made they are the dearest i can remember paying for. The restaurant was mega busy .The service The first night we had very little portions and the staff were not around but were in and out quickly the second night it just seemed rushed and uninterested no description of the food just delivered and had to pour our own wine. I was really looking forward to the cheese board as it used to be the best but it just came out cold and tasteless and had to pay alot more as a supplement. Id say if it was our first time there they would have got away with it but id put it all in a 3 star rating in a 4 star location. It was over priced because all the spa facilities are included in the price but we didnt want to use them and there wasnt a choice just abit greedy i thought. Compared with south lodge which is 5 star the price was around the same for 2 nights so i have to write this with this in mind. bring back that little golden find that we had a few years ago and it would match anything but they have taken their eye off the customer and on saving money on the little things that make a place special . I dont class myself as any star rater but if that was my job id have a word .

Everything we expected for a fabulous Christmas break. Very attentive staff who made our Christmas very special. Food and wine was amazing! Lovely location with a short walk to the beach and a beautiful swimming pool and spa. Dog lovers were very welcome and I wish I had taken mine.
