It is quite hard to review this particular venue as it has to wear many guises throughout the year. Despite the town's population of about 28,000 Clair Hall is basically the only dedicated location for exhibitions, shows, films etc etc. Consequently one building has to fulfil many different functions and, bearing in mind its relatively modest size and age, it does it pretty well. The main hall seats about 350 for shows so everybody is reasonably near to the stage and the acoustics are fine. The floor is flat and the seating is not permanently fixed so is not ideal but for a couple of hours is not too bad. As it is our equivalent to a village hall it is well used and shows are often sold out. There is a bar and an appropriately sized car park although the venue is also served by public transport including the nearby railway station. One day it will be thoroughly modernised and improved but at present it does well bearing in mind the demands placed upon it.
