Owner description: Enjoy the vast and beautiful grounds of Wakehurst. Situated in West Sussex and set in 465 acres of country estate, Wakehurst is glorious year-round with ornamental gardens, temperate woodlands, a nature reserve and an Elizabethan mansion. Besides the vast grounds, there is also a well-stocked gift shop, a cafe, a restaurant and a bakery.

“Kew in the country”

Lovely walks for all seasons. Feeding the ducks and geese down at the lake is great - they will take food out of your hand if you offer it gently. Bird watching hut for those interested. The cafes are usually busy and, like all National Trust places, are not cheap but provide good local food. The shop is a good place to buy gifts for those who have everything.

It is expensive if you are not a National Trust member, but if you are it is a great day out.

“Good place for some great garden walks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

There are some great walks here, including the gardens, mansion lawns, and the valley and lake.
It is really attractive in the spring when the Azaleas are coming out and the autumn colours are also beautiful - that said it is a good place all year around with plenty of free parking. But if you are not a National Trust member it will cost you £13.50 to get in.

“Great walks and gardens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

There are some great walks around the various parts of the gardens including the valley and lower lake. The seed bank of Kew is kept here and is a fascinating tour. Extensive shop and two places to eat make it a good day out.

“Afternoon trip to Wakehurst”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2013

We had an afternoon trip to Wakehurst it was ok but it was very expensive £13.50 to get in each. So not cheap. the garden was ok but the Café was particularly poor, no trays, long queue's limited choice, limited staff, many dirty tables that people were having to clear for themselves.
The gift shop was very expensive too. There was no parking spaces and people were parking on the road, For disabled access there are very limited paths that are tarmacked so most of the site is not accessible so £13.50 for an hours walk was too much. I know it is National Trust but they were taking the biscuit to be honest!

“Lovely autumn walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2013

Autumn at Wakehurst Place has lots to see. We visited in early November 2013. Most of the paths are well laid but there are areas where wellies would help. Some steep paths, but the map provided by Wakehurst Place, gives details of paths that are easier to walk. Close to the Mansion there are more formal gardens. The walk through the American Redwoods to the lovely lake is well worth the effort.
