Owner description: Enjoy the vast and beautiful grounds of Wakehurst. Kew’s wild botanic garden in Sussex is home to over 500 acres of ornamental gardens, temperate woodland, nature reserve and the Millennium Seed Bank. Wakehurst is glorious year-round with natural play spaces for children, regular family friendly events and a well-stocked gift shop, café and restaurant.

We visited Wakehurst Place on way back from holiday as we were in the vicinity and have intended to visit for some time. First off the parking arrangements and the various permutations of different organisation membership are ridiculously convoluted and very poorly explained at the entrance leading to confusion and delay. The gardens themselves are a nice place to walk, when we visited the Iris Dell was stunning and other areas were well in bloom. However the signage could be much better and we wasted time trying to find our way around. Café facilities were OK but nothing special. We visited early afternoon but even so for the prices charged the sandwiches could be expected to be a bit fresher. There is a poor selection of drinks, especially wine, and only paper cups to drink out of. Again, for the money charged this is not really acceptable. The Millennium Seed Bank is very interesting and very visitor friendly. However, the entrance fee of nearly £13 is far too high for the quality of the attraction.

Hi Mark, thanks for taking the time to leave us a review of your visit to Wakehurst.
We're sorry to hear of your disappointment in the car parking arrangements and charges. Car parking charges are only applicable for those entering Wakehurst for free, and income from day visitors and car parking is vital to the scientific, conservation and horticultural work of Kew.
It's great to hear that you enjoyed your visit to our gardens and the Iris Dell.
We’re sorry to hear that you found our signage, food prices,, and selection of drinks in our café to be limited. We are always looking to improve, and we regularly review the prices within our cafes and restaurants, and have passed your feedback over to our catering team.
We hope we are able to welcome you back to our gardens again in the near future.

My wife and I have visited Wakehurst on countless occasions prior to moving away from the area some 4 years ago.We made what we thought would be a nostalgic return meeting friends there and was astonished to find that we had to pay a ridiculously high parking charge. This has apparently been imposed by Kew who now run the place and not the National Trust.
The gardens were still beautiful but the charge and the fact that the cafe's had definitely gone downhill spoiled the visit. We were going to use the café but why pay an even greater charge to do so when the local pub has superior facilities.

Lovely place to visit. The downside is the parking charges that are stopping people going. Very popular in summer..

Met for a quick lunch as parking is free if you're there for less than 30 minutes. Nice bagel but very expensive for what it was and compared to other places. However, having visited Wakehurst several times, it's a lovely place to walk around

Beautiful gardens. I think May is probably the best time to visit but June was lovely even though the weather let us down.Food in cafes and restaurants was good value but service was very slow.
