“Just Wonderful! Our second stay.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

One of the nicest places you could stay, a romanic, idylic retreat.
On arrival you are greeted with tea or coffee on the old platform which is now a lovely terrace, then taken to your carriage, the character and style have been preserved as much as possible, it almost feels like you are on a romanic train trip ( with out moving ). The beds are sumptuous and clean, and shutters at every window.
Breakfast is served in thd old station house waiting room, a choice of cereal or cooked full english breakfast, or a combination of what you would like, fresh juice, toast, tea and coffee. All cooked and served perfectly.
If you want somewhere different to stay then this is the place.
The only bit of advice which we would have found usfull on our first trip to The Old Railway Station was that if you want to go out for diner in Petworth or surrounding villages then you have to book a cab well in advance, there are only a small number of cab companies in the area, and only one that works on a Sunday.
This was our second stay and hopefully with many more to come.

Room Tip: We have stayed in two different rooms on two different stays, in Montana and Flora 2, both where exc...

Stayed 2 nights april...where do I start....lovely cuppa with biscuits offered on arrival, stayed in Alicante pullman carriage, spotlessly clean, huge comfy bed, full sized bathroom, fresh tasty breakfast, beautifully tended garden, would be amazing in the summer, nothing too much trouble customer service at its very best. I fully intend staying again and am more than happy to recommend this wonderfully quiet place.

I can thoroughly recommend this splendid place for a stay. This, our second trip was perfect in every way. The welcome is so warm, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, nothing is too much trouble, the staff are genuinely lovely, and interested in their guests. We stayed in Alicante this time for 4 nights, all carriages are all well fitted with everything you need for a comfortable stay in such unique surroundings. Breakfasts are to die for, and as others have stated keep you full all day long; it's the little touches that make it special, a selection of fresh fruit ready to eat on your arrival at the table, followed by warmed breads or croissants, cereals of your choice, and if you wish a full cooked breakfast, our daughter also stayed for one night, and is currently off pork, so had the veggie pattie and said it was lovely too. The main room where breakfast is served is the main hall of the station, and has been thoughtfully restored, decorated and furnished. After breakfast you can sit by the fire, and read your papers, or magazines or books, all in abundance in comfy leather chairs. Petworth itself is a delight, with the National Trust House and extensive grounds plus the town, so there's plenty to see and do. We ate at Badgers twice, The Angel and Medjhoots Indian restaurant, and all where very good.

Room Tip: All the carriages are excellent, as are the rooms in the main railway building.

I did a lot of research on unusual places to stay and this place came top of the list on its reviews. So, for a birthday treat we booked ourselves in. I had been looking forward to staying here ever since I booked it and am very pleased to say it was not disappointing. The Old Railway Station is in a great location and is an absolute delight to stay in. As you park up, for me it really had the wow factor as its a step back in time. The Station house is wonderful and full of character.

The staff who greeted us were very welcoming, cheerful and made us feel at home. They sat us down and brought out complimentary tea and homemade shortbread, bliss.

Then it was time to see our room in the Montana Pullman carriage. Stepping out of the station house onto the platform to see those wonderful and noble carriages was an absolute delight. The carriage was just perfect and tastefully decorated. Bathroom was very modern and a great size. The carriage has many radiators and is very snug and homely. Lying in bed and looking down the carriage was just fantastic. These carriages have been given lots of love and attention and it clearly shows.

And then there is breakfast..... absolutely delicious. You sit in the station house with a rising fire. If you come during the summer you can sit outdoors on the platform and have your breakfast.

It is such a fun place to stay and I thoroughly recommend it. I came here for my 50th birthday and have loved it. Thank you all.
