After finishing hot air ballooning in Petworth, we were recommended this place by a local couple that was on the ballon flight. We arrived at the Horse Guards quite late, just after 9:15pm, before parking up, I popped in to check that they were still serving food, they were, great! So we ordered a drink from the bar while they layed up a table. The staff were friendly, inviting and happy to help. We ordered steak, which was cooked to perfection. The service was great and the atmosphere was second to none. We will be returning for another great experience! Thank you for making it a perfect evening.

My wife and I had Sunday lunch here, based on a recommendation on the telegraph website. We arrived just after 12, without pre-booking, and it was already almost full. The young landlord (and the rest of the young staff) was very helpful and found us a seat. Despite it being so busy, the service was friendly, quick and efficient without being over attentive. The decor is very "shabby chic", but properly done with obviously a lot of thought and effort gone into it.
We shared the bread and dips to start which were tasty without being too filling. Both of us had roast beef with roast potatoes, confit carrots, greens and sage & onion yorkshire puddings, which was excellent although I'd have preferred crispier potatoes. The home made ice cream we had for dessert was also lovely; not too rich or sweet. All that plus drinks and coffee came to £45 for the two of us, which although not cheap was reasonable value for the level of food and service we got. I'd highly recommend this place.

The Horse Guards at Tillington welcomes, refreshes and relaxes. Great South Downs location, lovely pub ambience, comfortable and well appointed rooms, superb food, there's even a garden to enjoy. We will certainly return.

My friend and I stayed at the Horse Guards Inn for a weekend in August 2013, and it was simply amazing. So welcoming, beautifully decorated, cosy and comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious and of a really high standard (all locally sourced and produced - extremely tasty). And the atmosphere was so warm and vibrant. The decor and the attention to detail was amazing. I think it's one of the best places I've ever stayed, and certainly within the price bracket. I'd love to go back (autumn walking weekends, or a cosy Christmas treat); it's a magical place and Misha and Sam have created a real gem of a place that feels very special, but also very genuine and relaxed. THANK YOU!

Tricky to find, but keep looking, its a fab place. We sat in the quirky sunny garden a wedding party had arrived for a drink before the service in the church opposite. Its an idyllic setting.
With a phone box outside the door its a fabulous example of a English pub. The food is sublime all sourced locally and some of the produce available to buy. Homemade ginger beer & other drinks, wine list extensive without being over powering, pudding to die for.
There are rooms available, so we are planning our next visit to stay over so we can all have a drink and enjoy the ambience.
Recommended to all, but especially if you are a visitor to our shores, you wont be disappointed.

Quirky dining pub with delicious locally sourced food, friendly staff and an amazing garden. Our bedroom (we stayed in the Double) was comfortable, but with very low ceilings and a sloping floor. The pub itself has been very nicely done, but the outside space is truly magical.

Asked by family to find child friendly Pub near Petworth we went for lunch today. Not only is the location idyllic with a fantastic garden, the food was excellent and the ambience really top notch. Granddaughter of 18 months was very well looked after with the charming Mischa not only heating up her baby food but washing her utensils afterwards. Little touches but not always evident in so called child friendly establishments, and really impressive. Highly recommended. Repeat visits guaranteed!
