We stayed 4 nights at Casas de los Suenos and cannot wait to return. David and Shannon were lovely hosts who always had a great restaurant to recommend or activity to suggest. The rooms were clean and well appointed. I was lucky enough to be able to take yoga classes next door and could slip out of Corona and right up the path to the wonderful yoga studio next door. Highly recommended!

We spent four days of our honeymoon at the Casa del Sol, and it could not have been more romantic. We danced every night in our magnificent palapa. We lounged in the mornings on our very private veranda with coffee and goodies that we bought the day before at the bakery in the pueblo. We listened to the sounds of Yelapa which are roosters crowing, dogs barking, waves breaking, breezes blowing, birds calling (watch out for the Chacalackas), and Mexican waltzes. We gazed at the beautiful vista of water and mountains with frigate birds, buzzards ,and pelicans floating on the wind. We were surrounded by the lush jumgle. After 10 days of palapa living we could not adjust to the vacuum of walled sound. David and Shannon, our hosts, are a delight and very interesting people. In the late afternoons we were able to meet some neat other people that were guests there as well. There was an informal get together every afternoon if you chose to attend. Their rescue dachshund, Winston, greeted you as you moved through the central palapa. The food in the restaurants around the pueblo was excellent. Always a treat.
One caveat. Yelapa is not for everyone. If you are not in good shape for walking/climbing steps, you're probably going to question why you chose Yelapa for a vacation. We liked walking and hiking. Some folks don't. This is not a place where you are going to be waited on hand and foot. Stay at the all-inclusives in Puerto Vallarta if that is your idea of a vacation. Yelapa is for taking your time....savoring whatever is on the wind at the moment....no tomorrow, no yesterday; just right now.

If you want to get off the beaten track to experience laid back, friendly, low-key Mexico just a short water taxi ride across Banderas Bay you must go to Yelapa!I Once you're there you must stay at Casas de los Suenos, which is nestled in the jungle just a short (5-10 min) walk from the local piers!

We've stayed there twice & plan to return again this fall for a longer visit!

We stayed at los Suenos the first time for only 2 nights, on a whim, in the spring of 2009. I chose romantic Casa Rustic, which features a queen size pillow-top swinging bed surrounded with gauzy mosquito netting & separate blue banos. It's secluded, quiet, serene atmosphere had us hooked!

Each of the 6 separate uniquely designed casas centered around Casa Principale has an amazing view, private bath & kitchenette complete with fridge, hot plate, bottled water plus coffee/tea service (plus secure bodega for valuables). All the casas have been recently remodeled in a modern yet rustic palaya style. The linens are new, fresh & clean!

We returned in the fall for a full week. This time stayed in Casa Buena Vista, the name says it all! Casa Buena Vista has a kingsize bed, indoor banos plus a fabulous al fresco banos & shower with a views of both bay & jungle. We sat outside our casa on our own private, quiet patio under a canopied tree entwined with bougainvillea, which was filled with multitudes of different butterflies by day & sparkled with fireflies at night.

Our fabulous friendly hosts, Shannon & David Yates, made us feel right at home and helped us familiarlize ourselves with the area & all it has to offer. We hiked to both both waterfalls, went swimming, snorkeling, spent lazy days on the beach, saw whales, went sailing, explored the pueblo & dined on both the delicious local & "American" cuisine (we recommend the Oasis & Passion Flower).

I can't say enough about Casas de los Suenos & Yelapa. It's an marvelous experience not to be missed!!

BTW - Don't forget to bring earplugs! You'll go to sleep & wake up with the calls of the jungle birds!

This is the most comfortable place I've stayed in Mexico. David and Shannon (the owners) are friendly and generous. They are well connected in town and were excellent at helping us find our way around. They made us feel like family. In the evenings, we sat around the fire pit... with music, laughter, good conversation, and beauty surrounding us . The palapas are clean and beautiful. I couldn't have imagined anything better for our vacation.

I've had many friends go to Mexico for all-inclusive hotel binging and it honestly never made for good stories or sounded terribly original. This place was different. Yelapa is small, relaxed, and beautiful and I think Casas De Los Suenos is one of the more desireable places to check out. Its a perfect place for an outdoor adventure retreat - I didn't see a car, a computer, or cell phone the whole time. It's all partially outdoors. You wake up to tropical birds in the palms overhead, the grounds have amazing foliage, the people who own it are really friendly and seem to have good connections to things happening in the local community. In the time I was there I went fishing, whale watching, hiked waterfalls, hit a beautiful yoga studio up the hill next door, tried sailing, and still had lots of time lounging on the beach nearby. Our room had a mini kitchenette so we were able to buy local and cook ourselves which is nice on a few nights. The room had lots of space. Liked best : being outdoors and still having a luxury king bed, kitchen, fridge, and bathroom with complete privacy. Liked least : can't flush toilet paper down the local plumbing.

Coming around the bend on the water taxi into the bay of Yelapa, whether it be for the first or for the hundredth time, is one of the most magical moments you'll ever feel. Yelapa is a place to come for total relaxation and adventure combined. Paths instead of roads, boats instead of buses, a symphony of ocean waves, tropical birds, roosters, donkeys and more, all combine to make Yelapa feel like a place out of time, a true tropical paradise. Casa de los Sueños is conveniently located just off the main path up river from the pueblo of Yelapa. Nestled in manicured jungle gardens, perched above the lagoon, it is an easy three minute river crossing to the beach. Los Sueños boasts a rich history full of wild characters and world class travelers. Built up in the 70s by the Shapiro family, the property has been a meeting place for actors, musicians, and artists since its beginning. After 40 years in the community, it was a natural extension for the Roberts family to takeover the property in 2011 and continue the Los Sueños tradition. ... more   less
