Stay here only if you can tolerate bedbugs, poor service, drunks, loud prostitutes and poorly prepared rooms.....wow, and they're pretty expensive, too compared with other hotels in the area...
We were told our room would be ready in 30 minutes but waited just over 3 hours....and when we asked for the owner's name and contact information, the reception area worker simply left the room.

I heard the Hotel Lagunita got new owners and perhaps that is why it's not what I've heard it was like in the past. We stayed in December 2012 and found the hospitality was really lacking. The room was not very clean either - I really like rustic, but want it to be clean. There were a lot of cobwebs, and the sheets were old. Not impressed.

On the other hand, breakfast there was delicious, and the wait staff was really nice.

I have stayed at Hotel Lagunita several times over the last 15 years. There are pros and cons: some of the advantages: it's very easy to find, right on the beach, they have their own dock for the water taxi, and the staff carry your bags to your room. They accept credit cards. It's beautiful.
The main disadvatages are: loud music from bar nearby into early hours. Surly head waiter (?), bad attitude and sometimes so rude, I felt unwelcome sitting reading at the hotel beach tables without ordering much. Another thing, since I was told by a longtime local that hotel septic field is under the beach and drains into bay infront of the hotel, I found myself thinking about it while snorkeling.

Hotel Lagunita is beautiful, simple and no frills place. Not luxorious but it was indeed a luxury to stay right on the beach within a jaunt from nice restaurants. This is nice place to stay at if you want to get a taste of Yelapa.

The folks at reception were very helpful. We had almost all of our meals at Lagunita restaurant and they were wonderful. The ladies at the restaurant and the bartender were always open to cater for your needs.

Contrary to recent reviews I did not feel the rooms to be rundown at all. They were pretty nice. We did book the hotel knowing very well that we would be staying in a palapa not in a AC'ed room in a 5* hotel.

We were in room 4, which was a beach palapa. It was right next to reception and restaurant. If you prefer your nights to be silent i suggest taking rooms away from the beach. the sound of waves crashing on the ocean is nice for a few days but you will want calmer nights after that.

The good thing is, although the hotel is small, the management was never in our face. We were left to do whatever we like in the property but they were always there when we needed any information.

Room Tip: We were in room 4, which was a beach palapa. Had AC but we didnt need it in december. It was right n...

I stayed at Lagunita about 7 years ago and was charmed. However upon returning last week I found my room depressing and unkept. The paint was chipped, the tiles chipped and dirty and the way the shower tile was configured it was ackward to stand in front of the sink. The towels were worn and frayed. The walls were painted a dated peachy beige. The pool that day was full of algae and the scupture that had held the fountain into the pool was no longer there.. only a bare pipe. At $90 dollars a night it was really disappointing. Mauybe other rooms were in better condition and we did stay in a different room last time that had a view from the bed.. this room had a view, but not from bed. I ended up moving to other accommodations for the next 4 nights that were less money.

We stayed at Hotel Lagunita for only a few short nights in January 2012 as part of our good friends' wedding. Honestly, we were initially hesitant about going to "a little fishing village that only got electricity a few years ago." But wow, could we not have been more wrong.

Lagunita's location right on the bay is perfect! No matter what your room says, you're mere steps away from the beach. The room in which we stayed had very high, thatched-roof ceilings and a huge window that opened up right onto the bay. We were so close to the water, that at night it sounded like the waves were going to crash right through into the room. (WONDERFUL!)

Luke (the proprietor) and his staff as so generous and welcoming that you're immediately put at ease. Even though when we arrived there were a few very minor mishaps, everything was immediately rectified.

Even though all of their supplies are delivered in by boat, the Hotel's restaurant has a very generous menu. Lots of delicious local flavors and everything is topped off with delicious veggies and salsa. All dishes and drinks are moderately priced so that you can really enjoy your vacation without [much] guilt.

A few notes: This IS NOT "The Ritz." Although the accommodations are comfortable, they are rustic. No TV in the rooms; no phones. The hot water works very well, when they have enough gas to heat it. These is not a "five-star hotel," but it is a five star experience.

We cannot stop telling our friends about our stay at Hotel Lagunita and cannot wait to come back again!

Room Tip: If you ask for a room closer to the "front desk" area, you'll be just a bit closer to...
