A gorgeous 40-minute coastal water taxi ride from Puerto Vallarta to tropical Yelapa. The hotel consists of a number of palapas nestled at the foot of the jungle and lining the very pretty and clean beach. The restaurant is good, the service friendly and professional and the location perfect. There's even a large swimming pool overlooking the sea. This is not a glitzy place - it's informal and wonderful. And as far as Yelapa - no cars here - serene - horseback riding - kayaking - trails to walk and hike - waterfalls - a wide, winding river, a tiny village and beauty everywhere. GO!!

And we don't mean that in a positive way. We have stayed around the world in many spartan accommodations, but there is a profound difference between simple and scummy. We had planned to stay for a week and left as soon as we could find other accommodations because it was peak season.

We shared our "hut" with a large land crab on the toilet, which smelled of sewage. A cat jumped into the unscreened opening between the roof and walls during the night and slept on the bed with us, as it apparently does each night. My wife is extremely allergic to cats.

Passersby could see into our bathroom and shower. There were no lights in the hut. We had to ask for mosquito netting for the bed. The hut was so small that there was nowhere to even open suitcases. You won't hear waves at night over the thumping music from the beachside bars. We even had earplugs, but they did nothing.

Despite the hippie/yoga/massage vibe, this place is trying to make as much money by doing as little as possible. We were so happy to get on the boat and head back to P.V., where we stayed in a simple, clean room for less money.

The town is sad. There's little "real Mexico" left here. It's geriatric hippie heaven. Was probably a great place in the seventies.

I've been coming to Yelapa for many years and have almost always stayed at Hotel Lagunita. It's the perfect location in Yelapa, right on the beach (which no other hotel can truly say) with the best view, excellent staff, lovely owner (Lucas), good food . . . and overall a super friendly atmosphere that lets you experience the paradise of Yelapa with comfort and ease. Of course Yelapa is accessible only by boat -- and it's a little rustic. It's not for people who want golf courses, tennis courts and a hermetically-sealed world with central air-conditioning. But if you like open-air casitas, tropical breezes -- and the experience of an authentic, old-world Mexican fishing village -- Yelapa and Hotel Lagunita are likely a great pair for you.

If we had simply stayed with a package, we would have been watching a water polo game of tourist in a pool while listening to La Bamabe. Our decision to go to Yelapa introduced us to another, more real side to Mexico. It was a privilege to remain in Yelapa as the last boatload of tourists pulled away. My kids will never ever consider an all inclusive after its taste of what they would be missing! Hotel Lagunita is more than a place to stay, it's an experience!

I have been traveling to PV since I was a child. This year my husband & I wanted to do a private one on one get away to celebrate our 15 yr Annv. We had visited Yelapa before & only stayed once in another hotel. But this trip we found Hotel Lagunita. We booked for the 3 nights 1 free special. We didn't think we would stay the whole time in fear of missing technology & AC but quickly changed our minds after the first night. If you are used to high class resort style places then don't stay. But if like having your feet in the sand, having a fan for AC,maybe a frog in your shower , the sound of waves right out your window & laying around drinking Corona & eating the best Guacamole & Ceviche EVER then this is you place. It is completely reasonable for the rooms & the food was beyond excellent. I highly recommend the banana pancakes for breakfast. I have told anyone who would listen to go here. My husband &i are thinking of renewing our vows when 20 hits & this is the place we'll do it !

We were a little hesitant to do Mexico. We have traveled central and south America and had great vacations. I think we got caught up a bit in cable news Mexico stories. Just like the US, there are places in Mexico where it would be "a really bad idea to visit" Pueto Vallarta and Yelapa were not those places. Felt comfratable in PV (lots of people hawking merch, but not scary) and Yelapa was like a postcard, with the jungle rising on 3 sides. The hotel was a super bargain. we stayed the "cheap period" in July, HOT, 90 days, high 70s night, but managed to sleep fine. Here are the cool parts, very easy swimming, gentle slope, few rocks,no seaweed. the snorling was easy by the rocks near hotel, lots of fish, good visibility in morning. the hotle have kayaaks to borrow, water very flat and easy paddling. Restaurant is great, chairs and tables sit in sand. good reasonably priced food, very attentive service. Not much reason to eat elsewhere, though other restaurants on beach were open til 4pm, not bad food either, town seemed a hassle for food. Not much in town, worth a trip, just ask for how to reach steps at hotel. there is a little store 3 minutes from hotel, also ask for directions. Front desk was very professional, bill done well. They will help explain water taxi. Hotel has a small office in PV if the water taxi get s you back before your flight, it is a one block walk from dock, and you can leave your bags and walk around PV. My wife went para sailing in Yelapa for $40.
It is as nice as the pictures. Wireless connection at office if you bring a pc. No TV, it was great, read and talked alot!!You should go!!!

This was an amazing trip for many reasons, we were well prepared due to reading trip advisor reviews, however I expected a much more rustic experience and to have some level of uncomfortability, yet there was really none. Our room was very small and quaint and one of the oldest at the hotel yet it was completely accomodating for us, we had no bugs or any other creatures, there was some discoloration on the walls but it was not blood as another reviewer had written! It looked like some sort of building material. Because the rooms are open air and have palapa ceilings you will find that the ocean breeze brings sand into your room throughout the day, but room service keeps the rooms very clean. The food is phenomenal! The best I've ever had in Mexico. The owner of the hotel is great, very laid back and accomodating. Even the lack of air conditioning was never a problem, we even turned our room fan off most nights. The weather was absolutely perfect! We opted to leave our two year old at home for several reasons and had mixed emotions about it once we got there, as other families had brought there children. Our next trip there we will bring our child!
One thing I really dislike about Mexico is how abrasive and intimidating the Policia can be while bradishing their weapons...You wont have that problem in Yelapa! There are three or four well mannered polite police men who sit in a beach palapa during the day, then retire to their homes at night. We did see them arrest a local but were told that was not a common occurance.
Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy a part of Mexico that is still clean and beautiful with little to no violence! Just know you may have to go without some of the conveniences at home. This place really helps you reflect on life and what is truely necessary!
