Our stay at the Glenella Guesthouse was more than we expected and a perfect base to explore the Blue Mountains. Kathryn was charming, friendly, and very accommodating, especially in her recommendations for hikes and fabulous restaurants. The Guesthouse was welcoming, cozy and comfortable for our three night stay the first week of 2013, and it proved to be a great opportunity for bird watching as we enjoyed our breakfast each morning. There's no need for a car to explore Govette's Leap hikes and overlooks or browse the shops and restaurants in town. The WiFi, large porch amd greatroom were most welcoming and convenient, as well.

Room Tip: Our room was small, but adequate, but nicely appointed and with a lovely view of the garden in back.

We had one night here with our 2 young kids in the family room. It was a lovely stay (slightly small bathroom but that didn't matter) and we were made welcome. It's worth coming just to see the house itself as it is a beautiful old villa, with gorgeous original features, coloured leaded windows, old furniture, huge decked porch and a really vintage feel. Lots of nice restaurants nearby (although all we closed when we were there over Xmas) but nearby Katumba had lots of choice at its fab 1930's cafes and restaurants. Loads to do in the area. Breakfast was adequate with a lovely room with views over the pretty garden. Enjoyed a game of scrabble with my sand once the kids were asleep from the selection of games in the hall.

We stay at Glenella each year for our annual group get together. Katherine, our host, is wonderfully accommodating and helpful and we always enjoy returning. Lovely, charming, old-world building, yummy breakfasts. Great location - short walk to restaurants and shops.

Room Tip: I always stay in a front room and it's never been noisy.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in November. Great location within walking distance to restaurants, hiking and the wine shop! Katherine was very accommodating and welcoming. The breakfast was nice and the cappuccinos were the best we had in our 3 week Australian stay! The spaciousblounging area in the entryway is perfect for reading, lounging and visiting.

Room Tip: In nice weather choose a room with a door opening on the veranda.

We loved our 3 night stay at Glenella. We chose it for its excellent reviews and great location and were not disappointed. Don't be dissuaded by reviews that complain about small room sizes. Of course they're small, it's a 100 yr old guest house after all. They are very adequate sized and we found it to be one of the most charming B&B's we've stayed in. Katherine helped us with suggestions on where to hike to avoid crowds and optimize the nature experience. We also found it to be so convenient to the train station and the beautiful, yet uncrowded Govett's Leap lookout.

One warning about Blackheath is that there are few restaurant choices Mon-Wed, which is when we were there.

We highly recommend Glenella Guest House!

Glenella guest house is the perfect get away for anyone who wants a real experience rather than a cookie cutter modern hotel. The building is a beautiful early 1900s guest house. We had a private en suite, very comfortable bed and reverse cycle air conditioning all within our heritage room, complete with ornate high ceilings and stained glass French doors opening onto the front verandah (where we would sit and enjoy the afternoon sunshine while drinking tea). We really enjoyed spending the evening in the large front sitting room drinking wine in front of the fire.

Only a very short walk into the town centre, with several great restaurants to choose from. Fantastic location in the heart of the blue mountains and the owners are more than happy to provide information about walks and other activities in the area.

Katherine, the owner/manager, is so friendly and professional. We felt really welcome and well looked after.

I really recommend this guest house and will be returning in the future.

Stayed here one night mid-week and would definitely return. Glenella is well priced, central to Blackheath and offers ample parking. I found Katherine to be friendly, accommodating and professional. She was helpful with restaurant recommendations and helpful in carryings (even a 5* hotel in Blue Mountains didn't do this ...).

I completely disagree that the place needs a renovation - It is a heritage building but renovated throughout with all the mod cons. The room was on the smaller side, but it was impeccably cleaned and the entire house was spotless. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and the linen and towels good quality. The entire house was warm and heated (no mean feat in the Blue Mountains!). The breakfast was better than Cafe breakfasts I have had - it included a full made to order cooked breakfast, barista coffee and continental selection.

Would definitely return the next time am in the area!
