Upon arrival we discovered that our bathroom had not been cleaned (the toilet hadn't even been flushed properly!). The owner/hostess wasn't around so we complained to one of the ladies from the thai restaurant attached to the guesthouse. When we returned to the room the toilet had been cleaned but the vanity and shower were still dirty. Also the room was tiny and the bed uncomfortable. The walls must be incredibly thin as we could hear people in the next room snoring!
The cooked breakfast is a bonus, if you are willing to wait 45 minutes for it (or for a coffee!).
I would not recommend this guesthouse.

Glenella is such a famous site in the Blue Mountains largely due to its former glory as one of the unique fine diners outside Sydney. It is a beautiful property, a lovely old mountains house which has been updated only so far as is necessary for modern conditions. This of course means the layout has had to adjust to include en suite bathrooms and other amenities. Hence many of the rooms are oddly shaped or just very small by today's standards. The good elements - the friendly staff, easy-going feeling of the place, lovely open fire and lounge area - are great, but the poor attention to detail lets it down. One of the nicest features for guests, the lounge area, is weirdly laid out with a wall-mounted television at one end, practically nowhere to sit to watch it, the sometimes raucous sound from the restaurant patrons drowning out everything else, and people traipsing in and out constantly. Grotty grouting, uneven floor tiles in the bathroom, huge bathtowels but no other bathroom towels such as bath mats, flannels or small hand towels, cheap soaps and shampoo and nothing else, and a kind of sticky feeling underfoot - old nylonish carpet?- reminds one of the worst elements of the old guest house scene in the Blue Mountains - anyone been to the Cecil in Katoomba? Those days should be long past. Glenella is good for an overnight stay, the breakfast is OK (but not much choice of anything), it is reasonably priced, but one feels it just should be so much better. The owners are kind and helpful and the atmosphere is friendly, but it really is not up to today's tourist standards.

We stayed two nights in a standard room and it was very good value. The bed was comfortable and the ensuite was clean &, bright. Breakfast (continental plus full cooked) was included and was served without delay. Katherine, the owner/manager, was always friendly & courteous and we noted her willingness to offer help to guests needing local guidance.
The in-house Thai restaurant was also very good value & we had lunch there on one day. Again the waiter was friendly and service was quick.

Room Tip: Morning sun rises on the RHS (while facing the guest house) for early warmth in winter but air conditioners are installed.

Catherine was very friendly and a wonderful host. She promptly greeted us as we arrived and showed us to our rooms where tea and biscuits awaited us. Our standard room and bathroom was quite small but clean. We did find that there was no place to put our suitcases but a dresser was provided to put clothing into for our 3 day stay. We chose Glenella for it's prime location & access to trails into the Blue Mountains. We were less than a 10 minute drive to Govett's leap and Gorse Valley trails. Glenella is easy walking distance to restaurants, shops and the train station. Overall we had a good experience here. The room was much smaller than expected, the bed was very comfy, we enjoyed Katherine's hospitality and the tasty hot breakfast each morning.

The cooked breakfasts were really nice and the coffee wonderful, but our room was very small. We were continually clambering over our cases. Yes it was the cheapest room, but it wasn't that cheap. (eg. compared to a lovely B&B in Port Macquarie at $15 a night less than this) One of the light globes was blown and never got replaced in the 3 nights we were there. There was no TV in the room but we could watch TV in the shared lounge area - which was very cosy with a big open fire. Cleanliness could be improved as the room was dusty and the shower tiles grubby. Catherine was friendly and helpful and made us breakfast early on the day we were leaving as we had a long drive. The Thai restaurant was convenient and quite good value. It was interesting to read another review which said that Catherine was clearly under pressure, which is an impression we gained also, but not what you want to find when you're on holiday to relax. Maybe she should consider getting someone in to do the cleaning?
