Last year we stayed in the Loft, intending two nights but adding a third night, this time it was the Maids Room for three nights. There will be a next time for sure. Beautifully appointed, ideal location, welcoming host, feel the serenity!

My wife and I were looking for a suitable destination for a long-overdue mini break, and a search of B&Bs in the Blue Mountains turned up this little gem. And what a find it is!

After a leisurely drive up from Sydney, we arrived and were greeted by our host, Andre, whose old-world charm made us feel completely welcome.

We were booked in the Maid's Suite, a delightful set of rooms ideal for a couple. Andre helped us with his extensive local knowledge of restaurants and local attractions, and a folder full of local info is provided for guests to peruse at their leisure. A loaf of home-baked bread from our hosts' kitchen, and fresh eggs from the resident hens are provided, and we can certainly vouch for their quality. Little touches like this add to the cosy feel of the place, and it just seems completely right from the moment you enter.

The suite was spotlessly clean, well-presented, and airy. The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom is well-appointed, and the kitchenette is entirely suitable for preparing breakfasts and light meals. A fireplace and an ample supply of firewood are on hand should the night prove chilly. In short, it's a home away from home.

The gardens are alive with greenery, and local birdlife is very much in evidence, with parrots and small songbirds regular visitors outside the windows and at the various feeding tables. The only jarring note is the presence of mosquitoes in the evenings, but hey, this is Australia, the weather is still warm, and thankfully, all the windows have flyscreens. No buzzing in the night!

Secrets Hideaway is an excellent base for sightseeing in the local area. The local scenic attractions such as Evan's Lookout and Govett's Leap are a short drive away (or a brisk hike for the dedicated walker), and are well worth a visit. Blackheath has escaped most of the tourist hordes and coach parties which bedevil Katoomba, and I think this is part of its charm. The various shops and cafes make a walk around the town an excellent way to spend an afternoon.

Andre and his wife have created a delightful refuge from the big smoke, and I hope we will be privileged enough to return in the not-too-distant future. I would unhesitatingly recommend Secrets Hideaway to anyone looking for comfort, cosiness, peace and quiet in an idyllic and welcoming mountain setting.

My husband and I felt we needed to get out of Sydney for a quick getaway. Unfortunately we were only able to stay for 1 night and Secrets policy was 2 nights on weekends, but we were very lucky that Andre had somebody checking out and allowed us to stay just the 1 night at a reduced rate for the largest Chauffeurs suite. From the time of first contact via email to a confirmation phone call Andre was delightfully friendly, chatty and helpful. The property is easy to find, quite a long way down Evans Lookout Road and tucked away behind a pretty picket fence lined with high bushes. The retreats are in the large attractive garden of the main house and are all attached in a sort of cross shape, but we never saw or heard anybody else. The suite is what I would call country heritage style and was very comfortable with our own kitchenette/dining area, separate sitting area and full size bathroom with spa bath and a separate large bedroom with open fireplace and a couple of comfy chairs. The huge king size bed was very comfortable with quality bedding and we had a very good night's sleep. There is also a good quality sound system and flat screen TV and DVD player. A simple breakfast basket is left with fresh home made bread, plentiful eggs from the onsite chooks, fresh milk, a variety of breakfast cereals and jams/spreads. If you wanted to add to this with say, juice or bacon you are free to do so. A combined shower gel/shampoo is provided, but if that sort of thing isn't to your liking take your own shampoo and soap. There is no heater in the bathroom and I imagine it could be quite cold in there in winter, although it was reasonably warm weather when we were there so this wasn't an issue. Something to note is that the hideaway is not in the centre of town and a car is needed to go out for dinner. The place was immaculately clean and tidy and we would thoroughly recommend it for a quiet and relaxing escape if you are looking for something alternative to the generic hotels and motels around.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Chauffuers Suite which was very comfortable.

Really great place to get away. It's nestled in a quiet picturesque area which is walking distance to Evan's Lookout. It really is a secret hideaway, from the road all you can see is the picket fence and garden. We stayed in the Maid's suite which is the best in my opinion as it has its own pathway straight from the driveway and is tucked away behind the other suites. Andre the host is super friendly and always available even for just a chat. I loved the extra touches like the freshly baked bread and fresh eggs, we were given a bottle of complimentary champagne as it was Valentine's day weekend. I loved the country decor and my boyfriend loved the woodfire so it was a winning combination

Room Tip: If it's absolute privacy you want I would recommend the Maid's suite, it has a path straight...

I stayed here with my boyfriend for three nights (Loft Suite for two nights, and the Maid's Suite for one). We both really enjoyed it, as it was nice and quiet, the gardens were beautiful, and Andre the host was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were immaculately clean, and had everything we needed, and the property is close to the scenic attractions of Govett's Leap and Evans Lookout. The only possible downside is that it may be difficult to access if you don't have a car, so I'd definitely recommend driving.

Great place to stay.

We had a wonderful time, from the moment we arrived and Andre greeted us warmly. He showed us to the Maid's Suite with the wood burning stove already lit and freshly baked bread on the counter and eggs in the fridge from his chickens!

The gardens are stunning and very peaceful.

The room had everything we needed and our 4 year old loved making bubbles in the spa bath (don't out too much bubble bath in!).

We will return!
