We tried this restaurant on Saturday evening. Fortunately we arrived early, as we had no reservation and half of the tables were reserved, and they were turning others away a few minutes later. We opted for the fresh individual miniature bread loaf piping hot from the oven, with olive oil, the olives plate and then one of the half dozen or so main courses each, rather than the tapas.

The paella was excellent, as was the steak Diane (tender flank steak with "finger licking" sauce).

The service was professional and prompt (I could not fault it), the ambience cosy, and the overall experience did not disappoint. The meal represented excellent value and we would have no hesitation in returning.

After a very good review in the Good Food Guide we expected escarpment to provide a very good meal. While it wasn't a disaster it also wasn't very amazing. The food (we ordered tapas) was rather on the bland side. Best dish was Patatas Bravas.

We booked a romantic weekend away in Blackheath for our wedding anniversary. We had planned to dine at one of the other popular restaurants in town however, we found them closed and had to look elsewhere.
I came across Escarpment and, after reading some other good reviews, made our dinner booking for Saturday night. VERY pleased that we did as we heard that more than 15 couples and groups were unfortunately turned away as they were so popular!
The food as the service did not disappoint. The tapas was fresh and tasty, the garlic prawns are the best I have ever had. The desert plate for 2 consisting of homemade pecan pie, the lightest & fluffiest sticky date, and to-die-for homemade chocolate ice-cream was delicious. Given my hubby doesn't normally like sticky date I had to fight to get any!!!
Being BYO (which we were kindly advised at the time of booking) we were able to bring a special bottle of red with us to enjoy over dinner. It all made for a beautiful night. I would happily go back! Definitely book ahead!

We thought we were just dropping in to a café for a quick bite to eat on our way back to the coast. What we ended up doing was having a delicious meal in a friendly, relaxed restaurant where we felt it was worth the time it took to stop and smell the tapas. Lovely.

I was coming through Blackheath after a weekend away with my wife and we noticed a restaurant with a Tapas style menu while strolling past. We decided to have some lunch and the whole experience was an absolute delight. We asked the host, Lynne, a few questions and as it turns out they are a husband and wife team who run the restaurant, by themselves. David, the chef, fresh, flavoursome food of an excellent standard; while Lynne, the host, was quite the professional. We have found that waiting tables is a bit of a 'lost art' these days, and the way she went about her business with a smile and odd joke was as professional as you can get. The menu is not overly large, but the options give you a nice variety of dishes without dwelling too much about what you want. For the size of the cafe it was just perfect. Next time we come through here, we'll definitely be coming back.
