“Very good option for a weekend to relax”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

For who likes nature and activities outside is a perfect place to go for a walk and specially to explore the Caves, which are beautiful and very interesting.
The place is peaceful and perfect for a weekend with your family or friends.
The only issue is the prices of the Caves, which I found a bit expensive. If was cheaper, we could visit more Caves.

Room Tip: The traditional room is the cheapest one and a very good choice. The only inconvenient that the bath...

We stayed at the Jenolan Caves Cottages, it was amazing!!!! Only 2 things wrong, showers are not nice, water goes everywhere except on you and the dished can't go in the microwave. We stayed at self catering.

I loved driving through the grand cave, which was like a fairytale entrance and popping out at the stunning valley where the ticket office and Caves House was. What an amazing way to celebrate my birthday, we will come again!

The room was nice and warm - we had to share the bathroom down the hall but it was spotless and seemed like no one else had used it the whole time we were there. We had a separate wash basin in our room for general cleaning and for making a cup of tea. The rooms were quiet and we had a great view of the mountains.

We also booked dinner in the award-winning restaurant - which was good as there is no where else to eat at night unless you take the winding road out (this access was closed at night when we were there). We moved our booked time to a bit later after a day of climbing through caves and they warned us there might be a delay due to it being busy then. When we arrived there must have been only 5 tables in a 60 table restaurant and we were served promptly. Food was so yummy and I recommend the local wine - we had a reisling from Orange.

A lovely weekend and worth taking the time to explore.

P.S - We did the Lucas, River, Orient and Diamond cave tours and I really liked them all. Each offered a different experience - River - beautiful underground streams of jade water - Orient - a real fantasty setting and the Lucus was enormous and at one point we were standing on the roof.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the ticket office and

Our room at Caves House was comfortable, clean and warm, but shabby. One of the two chairs was broken and unsafe to use.
The Christmas meal was very ordinary, dinner runs at half hour intervals from 6pm. We choose 7:30 and by then all the Christmas pudding had gone. A lonely tree and a few wreaths to give cheer we're the only signs of festivity, while the grand piano sat in the middle of the dinning room waiting in vain for someone to play Christmas music or anything else. The young staff were polite but unenthusiastic.

After arriving the receptionist was very slow to check us in. We upgraded our room to the Grand Classic and had to pay an extra $55.00 which was more expensive than stated on their website.
The room was lovely and worth the money but was still upset by the extra charge. We went down to the dining room for dinner where we were greeted by a huff of a host almost as if we were inconveniencing them for being there. We work in hospitality so we are always conscience of how we conduct our self's. Having said that i thought they were just having an off day and tomorrow would be better. Four couples had their three courses by the time our entrees were cleared. No matter. We wanted to have a leisurely dinner and at three and a half hours leisurely it was. The food was excellent. My girlfriend had the porterhouse steak. It was slightly overcooked but she thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the pork belly and i am always happy with pork. It was cooked perfect with a combination of crispy skin and soft flesh. After a good night sleep we head down for breakfast. The same staff were on for breakfast as the dinner service and again we were met with a huff and rushed in for breakfast. We were charged $35 for a full breakfast as the continental was an extra charge and not included in our package so we thought we might as well spend the extra. I inquired at reception regarding this and was promptly told that "none of the rooms include breakfast".
'Not even a continental', i asked. I was told with gusto the same sentence like i was a mute trying to decipher mandarin. Clearly perturbed we started our tours of the caves. The whole day was a delight. From the reception staff that booked our tickets with their enthusiastic personalities gave us all the information we needed to book our day and get the most of it to the security staff members wandering the grounds saying hello with warm smiles. We started with the plug hole tour and our guides were extremely professional and informative all the while having a laugh. Following that we took the Orient cave tour and again were completely blown away by the professionalism of our guide. Almost as if he was a geologist explaining the processes and time the stone undertook to depict these beautiful formations. Back at the hotel we decided not to have dinner in the dining room but have dinner in the bar area. Two of the dishes i wanted were unavailable and i had to order from the expensive dining room menu. My girlfriend ordered the nachos. It was a pile of chips cold to the touch with slightly melted cheese. The sauce was a jar of Dolmio corn chip dip. Disappointing for the amount they charge.
It was only the hotel staff that were terrible, not the tour guides. Id recommend staying anywhere near by and day trip for the cave tours.

The was the worst experience we have ever had. The cabin was old, freezing and run down. We also are at the Jenolan caves. Never eat there with an allergy. They pride themselves being a Gluten Free friendly. My daughter is a coeliac and has never been so ill after eating something that was advertised as GF but clearly not. I have tired on 3 occasions or talk to the manager about this issue, but each time ignored. The caves are amazing, but do yourself a favour and stay somewhere nice!

Meal at $80 per head was not worth anywhere near that amt and was disappointing and also cold. Lots of stuffing, hardly any veg - no trimmings, very sad......

Room was warm but the paint peeling from the walls not a good look. One tiny soap for both shower and sink in bathroom for 2 people - very very stingy in customer service for the price paid for the rooms.

Would not stay here in future but get a welcoming B&b up the road. Thoroughly enjoyed the Caves.

Room Tip: Rooms were warm but old radiators making it noisy. Paint peeling in all 3 rooms we booked wasnt a go...
