“Quirky old guest house.”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

Myself, husband and 2 kids stayed here for 2 nights in September 2013.I was already familiar with the establishment as i had spent time there as a teenager and knew pretty much what to expect. The V& A has definately kept it's old world charm & if thats what your into you will love it.From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome with the manager Roman & his staff doing everything they could to make our stay a truly memorable experience. Our room was of course like the rest of the V&A in need of a little T.L.C & it would of been nice to have a little fridge plus tea & coffee making facilities as if you wanted a cuppa you have to go downstairs to make it.The room however was clean & comfortable. The location Mount Victoria is just lovely a quaint little town away from all the hustle & bustle of the nearby tourist hub Katoomba. There is a lovely old pub,Mt Vic flicks a little old cinema, cafe, convenience store & all in close proximety to the train station.Of course the highlight of our stay was sitting on the upstairs balcony enjoying the lovely views and the food prepared by Roman was just delicious we ate there both nights. Would we stay again definately & look forward to visiting again soon.

Yesterday I went with a group on one of the many beautiful walking tracks near Mt Victoria. It was a cold and windy day and my friend and I tried various places in search of a hot drink but nothing was available. We wandered into the Victoria and Albert which was officially closed but Roman and Kate welcomed us into their warm sunroom and Roman made us each a large mug of hot chocolate (made with real chocolate). This was a sign of true hospitality and we would like to return in official opening hours to sample what sounds like delicious food on their menu.

our family of 4 stayed one night in August. We took one of the last rooms left, the N.1, which is the one below the 1914 sign. The room did not have a private toilet but we had been told it when reserving by phone and we were ok with that. The common toilets are very basic/old but clean (for example the basin had separate cold and hot water taps). Moreover there is a basin in the room.
The hotel itself looks like a museum, it is plenty of charm, especially in a cold and windy night.
The room was clean, a little bit cold due to the old windows and the strong wind outside, but with an extra coat it was fine.
Being Italians we tend to be a little bit picky when it comes to food, but we had an excellent dinner prepared by Roman and his staff, and the following morning an excellent cooked breakfast.
All in all we were very happy of the choice, it will be our base for further explorations of Blue Mountains in the coming months.

We started with yummy cinnamon scones , then onto a magnificent Xmas dinner & on Sunday morning a hearty breakfast. Tracy thank you & all the staff so much for all your hard work & hospitality . Our room was so cosy & we had loads of fun.

We (a group of friends) recently spent a night at the Victoria and Albert and had such a happy time. Character, historic atmosphere, fireside comfort, warm beds, spacious rooms, great food, warm and helpful welcome - it was all we had hoped it would be and would definitely recommend it and come again. We're all still smiling. Thanks Roman and all for a special weekend!

This could well be a great place to stay, but for the lack of maintenance and total run down appearance, inside and outside. Housekeeping was apparently on holiday, as there were cobwebs all around the place, peeling paint on the walls and lots of signs of plasterwork in various stages of completion.

Innkeepers Roman and Kate did a great job of making us feel welcome, but it was too little to overcome the lack of maintenance, the lack of hot water and the lack of adapters for North American things like hair dryers.

Roman is a great chef and cooked up a wonderful hot breakfast. We feel bad that their talent and efforts are the only effort made towards making this a welcome place to stay. Whoever owns this would do well and reinvest a little revenue back into the place, before it falls into ruin.

Room Tip: Stay out back away from the street noise.

A fabulous weekend of 18 May 2013 spent in this very homely and friendly hotel. Our room was very clean, the bed very comfy and the electric blanket and oil heater much appreciated. We and our friends had a very enjoyable experience with Roman and Kate being brilliant and super friendly hosts. Roman cooked us a great dinner and Sunday breakfast. We will definitely return.
