“Tenterfield in Winter”
Reviewed 31 August 2012

We recently stayed at Deloraine for the weekend over one of the coldest two days they have experienced this year. We arrived in the late afternoon a bit later than planned but all was good. Stayed in the cottage and found it most comfortable having a double brass bed, open log fireplace. sitting room, ensuite, TV, fridge etc. Debby has done a great job decorating the whole premises while keeping the character of this special building. The restaurant was full with a party who were clearly having a great time. We had made the initial inquiry & booking with Tony who had explained some of the accomodation options and steered us to their website. All in all we had a great weekend in this cool New England town.

I stayed here for two nights last week and found it very attractive and comfortable. I had a lovely double bedroom with a log fire ,( made up at 3pm before I arrived back at 5pm) antique furniture along with an adjoining private small sitting room with TV , fridge and coffee and tea making plus an ensuite bathroom.
It is not located on the main new england highway , and although it fronts the casino road, this is not very noisy, there was very little traffic between 10pm and 6 am. Tenterfield is a town steeped in history with some beautiful heritage listed buildings, avenues of glorious deciduous trees, national parks to the surrounds, and a main street full of independently run stores with plenty of variety and difference from main stream retail.

It was like stepping back in time to stay at Deloraine. Debby and Tony great hosts. So friendly and very knowledgable of the local area. To top if off Deb looks after injured baby kangaroo's that come to work with her. So beautiful. Annette's Soy Candle are the best i have ever used. We will be heading back for certain. Keith and Leanne

Room Tip: Even though Deloraine is on the main road we did not hear any noise thru the night.

We stayed at Deloraine for 3 nights. We loved our rooms and the location of the property. Tony took very good care of all of our needs and his breakfasts are wonderful. We also spent New Year's Eve in the dining room and enjoyed a fabulous 3 course meal which we felt was extremely good value. Tony and Debbie have lots of brochures on hand and lots of ideas for things to do in the area. We would definitely recommend Deloraine.

On one of our recent bike trips we by happen chance rode past this B & B. We changed our plans for our return trip and thought we would stay at this quaint historical house.

It's more than just a beautiful historical house. Once inside you realise everything is period set, from beds to displays that lavishly adorn the rooms. Although you feel like like it's too antiquated to touch any of the items in the room it all adds to the ambience. The bed while being an antique has a nice modern mattress that had us sleeping like babies.

We were sorry we were not able to dine in the restaurant but on our next trip.... if we can drag ourselves away from the relatives we would love to sample their food. If it's anything like our stay it would be a meal to look forward to.

Thank you Debby and Tony it was an overnight experience set back in time, and we loved it.

Room Tip: I have photos if anyone would like to see our room.

This is a big house with 3 guest rooms and a nice old-fashioned dining room. The original servant's quarters is out the back, and is another guest room - called the Cottage. It connected to the house by a newer, sunny place to have meals. We're told that the original house was built around 1873. It certainly looks solid enough!

The Cottage has an open fireplace, and wood was placed outside our door each afternoon. We stayed there 2 nights. The room has a modern ensuite. The bedroom was very quaint, with lots of little nick-nacks everywhere. Perfectly charming. And what a treat with our own private fire to stoke. However, no shampoo or conditioner was supplied. And beware those over 6 feet tall - the brass-knobbed bed is only a double!

Our hosts Tony and Debby were always helpful. They retrieved my iPad that fell off my car as we drove off (fortunately undamaged!). And Debby showed us a little injured "Wallaroo" that she rescued and is nursing back to health.

The dining room was used by us and another 8 couples for a "Christmas in July" night. Our hosts were very flexible in catering for us. Food was well-priced and plentiful. However, we had to ask for a water jug.

Staying in Tenterfield almost makes you feel part of Australian history. The solicitor who defended Breaker Morant, Henry Parkes, Peter Allen and more have a connection with this town. Staying in this B&B just adds to that experience.

Room Tip: If you want an open fire, or are a light sleeper, choose the Cottage (furtherest from the road).
