“Not all it was cut out to be”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 January 2012

We searched for what we thought would be the best quality/value in Katoomba and came across “Moments Echo Point” at $350 per night. We received a welcoming letter upon arrival advising the fireplace was ready for us and to enjoy. There was a small disclaimer at the bottom of the page saying firewood could be purchased for an extra $25. Being a self contained cottage we assumed it would have the basics, however there was no washing machine or dish washer.

We had paid extra to accommodate five people however only bedding for four was prepared. The management had decided the last bed did not need to be made up as the second double could accommodate two people. Our children did not want to share the other bed and since we had paid for the extra person needed to locate the extra linen to make it up.

On the way in we passed the cleaner who had yet to finish at check in time. He advised the rubbish was overflowing so just to leave our rubbish behind the bin. The sink which he must have just cleaned was full of black gunk which I assume was from BBQ equipment. The showers had mould and the crockery was greasy.
The location was fantastic and could be described as cosy but for four star accommodation this fell short.

Our family of four just spent six nights over Christmas at the Cottage on Fletcher, near the main guesthouse. I had high expectations of what we would get, and was not disappointed.

The cabin, built in 1916, feels "real." Although modernized, you absolutely know that you have stepped back in time. The hardwood floors, window fixtures, furnishings, and decorations add to the ambience of the time period.

Beds and pillows were very comfortable, and the rooms were of a nice size. The bathrooms were excellent and included whirlpool tubs which we enjoyed (although we do agree with a previous reviewer that shower curtains would be helpful). We loved the layout of the cottage and while small, it felt bigger because the space was utilized so well. The fireplace and wraparound porch were very nice touches that "topped off" the experience. The kitchen was well equipped, and although the appliances were old, they worked just fine. The yard was beautiful and played host to a lot of birds for sure!

The location is outstanding and is only about 2 km from the main part of Wentworth Falls. Walking down Murphy Street, you are only about 100 meters from the Blue Mountains National Park trail system which was awesome! You can also enter from the Conservation Hut, which is about 200 meters away.

Parking near the back porch was a bit tight, but parking looked to be available along the street out front if needed. Our rental Corolla was fine, but a large vehicle may not fit.

Service was excellent, friendly, and responsive.

Coming here is all about expectations. If you are expecting the amenities of a 5 star Hilton Hotel, this may not be your best choice. However, if you are looking for an impeccably clean and authentic accommodation to enjoy by yourself, with your family, or accompanied by friends, then the Cottage on Fletcher is for you. We leave 100 percent satisfied and with a ton of great memories for sure.

Enjoyed our stay however reception closed at 6 and we were unable to turn air con on as control is kept at reception. Verandah not very private- Woken early by woman in neighboring room talking on verandah. Located in a quite area which is close to lots of walks. Staff member was very friendly and helpful.

I booked one of the cottages close to the three sisters for my mum and aunts visit from wa. While an older home the property was well appointed, clean and convenient location. I booked directly online noting that there were three people staying and we were all related. Being self contained, I expected a few guidelines, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed that amongst all the rules, there was advice that if we had two people staying we had to use only one room. Well problem there was three of us and we were all related. No trouble I located the fold out bed In the front foyer area -no privacy which was semi made and hoped that I wouldn't see an additional cost on my cc. Note if you have more than one car check what options you have for parking as it is opposite the car park for the lookout so parking is timed. Overall good location, comfortable for two couples if you want a weekend.away without frills.

Room Tip: With only one bathroom double check max occupants before booking

Moments has a main guest house (B&B) and a few standalone cottages nearby. We chose to stay in one of the cottages - Cottage on Fletcher. These provide the ultimate in privacy but few extra services (breakfast is nearby, for example, instead of just "downstairs" as in a more traditional B&B).

The cottage was very clean and well maintained. Everything was just as described on their website - no surprises at all. 2 bedrooms (one with private bath), kitchen/dining room, family room, common bathroom, and outdoor wrap-around porch. Very nice wood burning stove in family room for those cold nights - such a romantic feel to play a game or watch a movie with a fire crackling in the stove and the smell of "camping" in the air.

One of the best features of Moments is its ideal location - so close to the hiking trails of the Wentworth Falls area. And if you get tired of this area, Leura and Katoomba are just a short drive away. There are so many trails to explore, or head to Scenic World for a more "touristy" view of the Blue Mountains.

We will definitely be back!

We loved our stay at Moments even though it rained all 3 days. The staff couldn't do enough if you needed somethng but they left you alone to enjoy a relaxing and private stay. Only one tip for the owners would be to find a way to make the balcony more private. We found the shared balcony a bit daunting, probably down to our great British reserve but guess you'd lose some of the wonderful view if you segmented it. We've already recommended Moments to family who might visit in the future.

I wanted to find a romantic getaway for me and my partner to end the Christmas festivities. I found Moments, and it was exactly what I was looking for. We booked into the Empress Suite for one night, which was impeccably clean and spacious. The room has its own veranda (again, very clean with no cobwebs in the corners!), which looks out onto the mountains, and was a great place to sit and relax. The in-room 2 person spa (with automatic temperature control), also adds to the romantic relaxed feel. Next to the spa, there is a gas/coal fire. As we visited in the middle of summer, it was a bit warm for us to use, but it would be a perfect touch after a cold winter’s day walking in the bush.

It really feels like the owners, who were extremely friendly and attentive without being ‘in your face’, have put a lot of time and effort into thinking of everything, right down to things like the individual door bell for the suite for those important take-away deliveries. There are no short cuts or skimping on anything, the suite had everything and more than we needed or wanted. The breakfast platter fed us both well, with toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, juices, mini muffins as well as decent coffee and tea, and the clouds lifted for us so we could enjoy it all with great views from the veranda. Moments is situated right next to the Conservation Hut in Wentworth Falls, and is a great place to start one of the many walks in the area. It’s about a 30-40 minute walk from the train station and village, although I believe moments offer a transfer service from the station if requested, and there were quite a few taxis waiting right outside the station also.

The only doubt I had before I went, was that the veranda is shared with the neighbouring suites, only separated by a small divide and some plants. Once we got there, we found that we still had enough privacy, even though at least one of the other rooms was occupied. Other than that one, small issue, I can say that this is one of the nicest places I've ever had the pleasure of staying in.
