Stayed one night middle of February 2014 in room 2 (one of the two motel like rooms in an outdated block few steps from the restaurant/bar/bottle shop). Was positively surprised when we finally managed to find out where we were staying and opened the door. The unit is recently renovated inside and quite nice. Good bed, nice linen, okay bathroom, fridge, small kitchenette and tv. Plus not to forget great view of the sea just across the road. Good beach few steps away. For the price we paid I think it was a fair deal considering the price level in Bruny Island. We ate in the busy restaurant and had a quite good seafood platter. This accommodation is maybe not suitable for a honeymoon or a romantic getaway but perfectly fine for a good night's sleep. Our only issue was that the electricity suddenly went off around midnight and left us in the dark. We couldn't find any help but were about to sleep anyway and had charged your alarm clock enough to last all night. The power was back in the middle of the night. We left early morning and just dropped the key in the box near the entrance to the restaurant. There is no breakfast served and not many places to stock up on the island so bring it from the mainland. Do try the oysters from the oyster farm on the way from the ferry. And if you have to wait for the ferry when going back to the mainland you can enjoy a good cup of coffee at the little shop at the dock. Bear in mind that most of the roads on the island are unsealed and that a four wheel drive can be a good choice (many rental car companies do not allow their vehicles to drive on the island). It's worth the trouble though as the scenery is great.

Bruny is a small island with breathtaking views and relatively limited accommodation - so imagine our extreme disappointment when we arrived at the Bruny hotel to register for our three day stay (booked several months in advance) only to discover that the booking had been mismanaged and we were only booked for two nights. Despite the 'she'll be right, mate' attitude of the person who had taken my phoned in booking and the credit card number given to secure my booking - there was no follow up email and we were stuck without accommodation for one of the three nights of our holiday. It was also disappointing that - given the hefty charge to stay two nights - the accommodation was dirty. The views were beautiful, yes, but the windows hadn't been cleaned for a while so it was difficult to enjoy them. Dead insects throughout the house, a terrible smell in the bathroom and a genuinely uncomfortable bed made it an uncomfortable stay. On a previous occasion, we had stayed at All Angels which, in contrast, was a lovely experience. This was not. On the up side, it is light and bright and the sea vistas are wonderful.

We enjoyed a delicious meal at the Hotel Bruny. It was the perfect place to stop and warm up after a Bruny Island Cruise. There was a great menu choice with an emphasis on local seafood and produce. The seafood chowder was superb.

We have eaten several times at Hotel Bruny over the past 2 months while on the Island. Great service, friendly and welcoming. Beautiful fresh seafood. Good knowledge of gluten free requirements. The chef even whipped up some heavenly gluten free apple fritters. Thank you.

The units beside the hotel don't look like much, but inside - clean, functional and on the way to stylish! The bathroom had been renovated, but was very plain and parts
looked old. However, it was clean, and had everything you could need - including a hair dryer. Room has fridge, toaster AND a coffee plunger. We didn't bring coffee, but Dave the VERY helpful hotel manager ground some of the restaurant's beans for us free of charge. Hotel doesn't do breakfast, but you could BYO bread/basics. Otherwise some nice little cafés dot the island. We had a lovely reasonably cheap breakfast at The Hothouse Cafe (coffee not so good).
Best of all - the LOCATION!! Lying in bed looking across the D'entrecasteaux Channel, all the way to Mt Wellington.

We stayed in one of the two motel rooms which are next to the hotel. It was newly decorated and nicely done, but there were a few things that could be changed to make our stay better... It was freezing and the heater didn't quite battle the poor insulation. The water in the bathroom came out white and tasted of smoke so we didn't want to drink it. The hotel doesn't serve breakfast and there isn't much on Bruny so you either have to bring your own, or get supplies from the General Store across the road. They sell individual cereal packs, but if you want toast it's a bit inconvenient to have to buy a whole loaf of bread, tub of butter etc just for one brekkie.
The owner was very welcoming and friendly and the dinner in the hotel was nice and they had a good selection of beer. It was freezing too despite the two roaring fires.

There are two motel rooms side by side behind the bar/restaurant/bottle shop. The food at the restaurant is quite good, but pricey as to be expected. The view from the little motel suites was beautiful, the sunsets were breathtaking. It is basic accommodation... clean, nice, neat, anything you might need is there, but it is nothing fancy. In reading some other reviews, I imagine it might be a bit cold in the winter, but during our stay we were comfortable in the room and it was chilly outdoors at night. One is definitely paying for the location here and I think it is worth it.
You pick up your key at the restaurant and then you are on your own. We did not have any issues that required contact with a desk person so this was not a problem for us. We would (will) return again.
