Stayed here under false presences thinking I had a booking here when it was at the motel up the road (glasgow) the manager should of told me this when I checked in and couldn't find my booking instead of leading me to beleive that it just wasnt in the computer system not a good way to do business stealing customers from others very dissapointed

We appreciate your positive ratings regarding the Barclay Motor Inn despite your annoyance that you checked in to a different property to the one that you had booked. It is never our intention to "rip off " our guests or "steal" guests from another property. If a traveller arrives at the Barclay and has a booking at another property nearby it is our policy to redirect them. Carrying your reservation details with you enables all property owners the opportunity to redirect you to the property where you have booked if you have been unable to locate it.

Planning ahead for a Sunday evening arrival from Melbourne with 'Spirit of Tasmania' a couple of self-catering foot passengers face a problem....no buses meet the ferry and the riverboat to Devonport doesn't ply its trade on Sundays. The nearest motel to the port has no self catering facilities - only a pricey dining room (anyway the place looks dismal when you see it). The cottages up the road sniffily tell you they don't want one night business - only three and up will do for them. The town is curiously short of studio / kitchenette rooms and, after a few tries only the Barclay fits the bill. At $150 it's a steep bill too. So it's a sprint off the ferry to grab the only cab that's waiting for pick-ups and a catch $20 rap to town. Now, the Barclay looks fine - it's a clean, neat, if old, typical Aussie motel on a quiet side-street. A big supermart is a ten minute walk away and there's always a bottle shop in Oz! But we found our full studio room devoid of all but the very basic two knives, two forks, two spoons, two plates, two cups....not a sharp knife, no bread board, no bowls, and so on. A kettle and a tiny microwave provided the full facilities mentioned.
The room itself was motel bog-standard, not totally bleak but nothing to soften its edges and no attempt to cover its obvious age. That said the bed was comfy and towels and hot water supplies met anyone's reasonable expectations.
Your bill will come with the usual Aussie rip-off of 1.5% added for a card transaction and phone calls are eye-wateringly expensive. He'll charge you for calls that don't connect too!
It's what happens when you are the only show in town. There's a $150 dollar tag for an $80 trip.

We are happy that you found our location convenient to supermarkets and bottleshops for provisions. But we are disappointed that you did not enquire at the time of your stay as our Studio Units all have cutlery and crockery for either two or three (if the Studio has an additional single bed). In addition to the Microwave there are hot plates, a stainless steel cookware set, and electric frypan, toaster and electric jug and chopping board and knives and cooking utensils in both our studio and family two-bedroom apartments.
We are confused in relation to the credit card surcharge as we do not charge a credit card surcharge on cards other than Amex and Diners and that rate is higher than the 1.5% that you mention, and our call rate for phone calls is very reasonable. In this age of mobile phones our provision of a telephone facility mainly serves to communicate between our motel rooms and apartments and reception.

Motel is a bit old but rooms were large and beds were comfortable. Bit out of way if need to eat at night. You have to drive into town. We wanted to stay longer however they were booked out so he to venture further on. Clean tidy and spacious.
We would stay there again.

We are happy that you were comfortable during your stay with us at the Barclay Motor Inn and also disappointed that we did not have the vacancy available for you to stay longer as we feel it is a privilege to be your hosts for more than just a day. We hope that we can be of service to you at some time in the future and that you will recommend others to book with us.

Quite a pleasant stay. Conference room became quite warm though as no fans or air conditioning but otherwise ok.

Rooms were well appointed and beds confortable. Breakfast was ok.

DOWNSIDE. No restaurant, no fans or air conditioning and the most annoying aspect was the room service trolled at 7 am sounding like freight trains.

Other than those things this is a bare bones motel and reasonably priced. Not very suitable for the business traveller.

Room Tip: Choose one away from the centre where the room service trollies come from. Bring your own fan in the...

This isn't a bad hotel but is probably better for families rather than business travelers. I stayed here over night the room were pretty large but a bit on the dated side. Everything was clean but the bed was a bit hard. The main issue for me was no restaurant which forced me to venture out for some of the worst Chinese food that its been my misfortune to eat lol! Over all though its ok.

I stayed here for business for 4 nights recently. It is an older style motor inn. However was very clean, and well maintained. Is a light out of the CBD however this provides a quite and peacefull sleep. It is a nice walking distence to the coast, beach precint and lighthouse.

Room Tip: Best to have a car when staying here

We had no reservation - but had to find a place to stay before catching the Spirit of Tasmania back to Vic the next morning on a day crossing. (I don't recommend it and wouldn't do a day crossing again - boring.....)

An older style motel with older style decor and furnishings.

It was spotlessly clean with brilliant facilities for families - games room and sporting equipment, plus a pool.

The room we were allocated was fantastic. It was huge... and very quiet at the rear of the facility.

Can't comment on the breakfast as we left before this was available...

Would definitely stay here again. It is away from the town slightly and in a quiet suburban street
