We stayed here three nights as a base for the Far South during our 10 day holiday of South and Central Highlands. Every January for past six years friend and I have explored different regions. We absolutely loved staying at this accommodation. Five nights would have been better! Spent hours sitting on the veranda soaking up the scenery and enjoying chatting to the locals as they walked along the beach at our doorstep. How soothing to listen to the gentle lapping of the waves. From here it was an easy drive to Cockle Creek (the end of the road - Australia's southern most road), Ida Bay Railway and Hastings Cave in one day trip). Dover is a small quaint town and is probably 20 mins walk away, however, although walkers, we felt some section along the main road not althogether safe to walk into town, therefore drove. Perhaps there is another way into town that we didn't discover! If you like a good steak for the BBQ and a few gourmet treats don't rely on the local IGA supermarket. No local bakery, has a liqour store and a coffee shop where we had rock hard scones and limited for healthy options. There is a local restaurant but not open every day and not a place to have an inexpensive meal based on comments in visitor's book. We enjoyed a meal at the RSL and the view was spectacular. Tides Reach was an amazing place to stay and other than the odd wine glass having the remnants of lipstick on it, we couldn't fault our stay.
I picked this place because the reviews were so good and I wasn't disappointed. It was so peaceful, sitting watching the local pair of black swans sail by on the wide waters of Port Esperance. The team at Essentially Tas were great to deal with, helpful and friendly. This is where I would always want to stay south of Hobart.
We have stayed at this luxury self contained house on many occasions in all seasons and although we no longer live in Tasmania, it still remains one of our favourite places to stay. Peaceful and tranquil seem inadequate words to describe this secluded location at the edge of Esperance Bay.
We stayed here for several nights in January and are planning to return. It is one of the best places we've stayed in Tassie. Great location, virtually a private beach complete with swimming ducks and a goose in the sea! Also oodles of large abalone shells and even hundreds of spider crabs scuttling around. Breakfast provisions were fantastic and we wanted for nothing except for a washing line (though there was a tumble dryer). Very helpful people at Driftwood Cottages.
