“Wonderful”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

Stayed here for two nights and it is definitely the best hotel I've stayed in either here or overseas. Yes, it is hideously expensive but worth it for a special occasion. The views were spectacular, the room had everything you could possibly think of, the food was wonderful and the staff absolutely spot on (special mention to Declan on the walk, Hadyn at the front desk and Linn in the restaurant). In fact the only staff member that let down the team was the GM who managed to ask me the same question about our future travel plans three times in the space of 12 hours (the second and third times were five minutes apart)! Either he is very forgetful (in which case he should take a brain training course) or doesn't actually care about the answer (in which case, why bother asking?).

I can only wholeheartedly agree with the previous reviews. My husband and I recently stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was definitely the right decision.

Justin met us on arrival and was very warm and welcoming. Champagne turned up within minutes of us looking at that amazing view and a bottle was also waiting in our room. Someone had even written 'happy anniversary' in the gravel outside our room - what a thoughtful touch!

All the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Particular mention must go to Declan who was our guide on a Wineglass Bay boat trip and Steve who was the skipper. These two made it one of the most memorable trips ever and their knowledge of the area and wildlife was second to none. We saw sea eagles, wedge tail eagles, dolphins (Steve spotted them in the distance and took the boat towards them so they ended up swimming alongside us) and a stingray in the shallows when we stopped at a beach. This trip is definitely recommended and the lunch was fantastic.

The room was spotlessly clean and it was lovely to come back to lit candles after dinner every night. The food and drink were both excellent. The staff seemed concerned if there wasn't a point in the day when we weren't eating or drinking so be prepared for expanding waistlines!

Spa treatments were great and the cocktail mixology class was a lot of fun - would definitely recommend this (Japanese Slipper has now been added to my list of favourites)!

Having stayed in several wonderful places in Australia and New Zealand (including Wolgan Valley, Huka Lodge and Blanket Bay) I can say this is definitely the best one so far. If you are in Tasmania this place has to be a must-do!

Room Tip: No need to choose - all rooms have that fabulous view!

It will be harder than usual to write all that I wish to say about this very special property. We were originally invited to go with a group for a one night stay, but had heard from friends that we would be sorry if we did not stay at least 2 or more nights. After booking for an additional night, we then booked in to do a 3KM guided walk to see the very famous Wine Glass Bay and participate in an Oyster Tasting experience - in the water with a glass of bubbles too!
A sensational experience from arrival to departure. We experience amazing food, exceptional staff, with everyone on a first name basis, experienced tour guides, magical day spa experience and over all 6 star inclusions. As hard as I looked, I could not find any fault in the guest villas with everything included you could possible imagine, and more. Drinks, treats, music, sweets, candles, movies, robes, slippers, cookies, nuts, magazines….. they have thought of it all.
I have travelled to many many places and stayed in thousands of hotels, motels, lodges, guest houses and the like, but Saffires would have to be, most certainly up there in my top experiences. Congratulations to all the staff, you are a true asset to this most amazing property.

Room Tip: There are only 20 villas to choose from - you won't go wrong.

I fully endorse the previous review. Thought Qualia and Wolgan Valley hard to beat but this incredible place does it! Service was warm, attentive and had enough élan to really make one feel that extra bit special. Rooms are 6 star with sweeping views and food is beyond good. Really good choice of wines even on the package and there was enough to do during the day to avoid needing a lap band on return from several days of indulgence. Simply the best place I have stayed in in Australia and right up there with anything in Europe or the Americas.

Room Tip: All rooms are great so don't fuss over this.

From the moment the General Manager, Justin, met us at reception and took our cases, it was clear that this was another step above what one would expect in terms of customer service, even at a five star establishment. We were treated like family throughout the stay, celebrating my birthday. The facilities are world class, views are to die for from every one of the rooms, and the food and beverages are outstanding.
The room itself had floor to ceiling glass which took full advantage of the fabulous views, but still maintained privacy. The bathroom was amazing.
If it wasn't Justin himself making sure everything was going well, it was Mel who was ensuring the standards of customer service were truly exceptional.
Loved the concept of casual lunch seated in armchairs looking over the bay, and the degustation menu at dinner, with matching wines, was excellent. Even breakfast turned out to be something that little bit different and of the highest quality.
This is one of Australia's few world class getaways, ideal for couples seeking something unique to celebrate that special event.
Cannot recommend it highly enough...

Room Tip: No need, all 20 rooms have fantastic views and facilities.

Service with the best smile in the world - from General Manager Justin, Executive Chef Hugh, Pastry Chef Kelly, all the GSMs, guide Declan to the friendly engineer who fixed things....all made us feel really welcome. Lovely views, great wines and fresh, interesting and beautifully prepared food. The biggest problem was how to work up an appetite between meals! Fortunately the local walks - Wineglass Bay Lookout and Cape Tourville Lighthouse, Freycinet Winery helped with this problem. Lunch was our favourite - fresh fish grilled or on the BBQ with salads and good local wine - all anyone could want.

A great room with modern facilities, a large private terrace and stunning views. An excellent spa with friendly staff. The Hotel is situated on a very long sandy beach which is perfect for a good long walk. The breakfasts were great with a good choice, lunch was very casual in the bar area with a lovely selection of salads and a choice of two cooked dishes. Dinner was great and you do not have to stick to the menu ask the chef what he has fresh as well - no excuse for oysters with the oyster farm down the road. There are quite a few steps so this is really only suitable for the reasonably fit and not for wheelchairs as it would be difficult to get to the beach. Great place to completely get away from it all.

Room Tip: They all face the sea
