This accommodation exceeded our expectations. We were very happy with the privacy and peaceful location and the waterfront suite. The photos on this resorts website and information are accurate.
We sent an email booking enquiry to the property direct & a prompt reply received within 24hrs. A telephone call to confirm reservation & as promised the receipt & confirmation was sent to us in the agreed timeframe. Good first impressions. The room rate included a $20 credit in the restaurant on site each night.
The signage for the hotel was easy to find on the leisurely 2.5 hour drive from Hobart. There is a blue tourist sign on the left about 400m before the resort with its name on it, then a big entrance and sign on the right with Edge of The Bay (illuminated at night) at the entrance. On arrival just after 1300 room was ready and were able to park the car outside the door of our waterfront suite.
Check in times 1300 to 1900. Check out is 1000. Prior arrangements required if outside these times. Reception is responsible for the restaurant reservations (essential) and use of the free dinghy boats, bicycles and tennis courts.
We stayed in a waterfront suite. Lovely modern and clean minimalist rooms with air-conditioning, heating,, tea, coffee, sugar and milk provided, fridge, kettle, toaster, coffee plunger (& ground coffee), champagne/wine/soft drink glasses, bottle & can opener & colour TV, video and CD player. Good lighting in the rooms with a floor to ceiling sliding door that opened onto the deck where the wallabies would jump on and sit and watch us. Secure windows one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. Good storage space for bags & wardrobe items. Bathroom amenities were shower cap, shampoo/conditioner & soaps. There are horizontal black blinds that close on all windows & doors for privacy. Even though the suites are adjoined we were not disturbed during our stay.
It was easy to locate the guest laundry, dinghy boats, tennis court, and bicycles. The restaurant was only opened for dinner with the recommendation to make reservations by 1300. The food and service were outstanding.
Just a short drive into the town of Coles Bay where a bottle shop, bakery, grocer, post office, information point, pub and other accommodation options can be found. Freycinet Lodge is a short drive beyond the town (only minutes) and if time allows stop at the bistro for lunch as the views and food are wonderful. We explored the area easily, ample parking and the purchase was required of a National Parks pass to enter the Freycinet National Park, $20 for 24 hours (other options available) and that allows a climb to view Wineglass Bay lookout & other walks with a free map available from the Park Pass office just after the Freycinet Lodge and before the Wineglass Bay walking tracks car park.
