“Peaceful & Private”
Reviewed 10 January 2007

This accommodation exceeded our expectations. We were very happy with the privacy and peaceful location and the waterfront suite. The photos on this resorts website and information are accurate.

BOOKING
We sent an email booking enquiry to the property direct & a prompt reply received within 24hrs. A telephone call to confirm reservation & as promised the receipt & confirmation was sent to us in the agreed timeframe. Good first impressions. The room rate included a $20 credit in the restaurant on site each night.

ARRIVALS/DEPATURES
The signage for the hotel was easy to find on the leisurely 2.5 hour drive from Hobart. There is a blue tourist sign on the left about 400m before the resort with its name on it, then a big entrance and sign on the right with Edge of The Bay (illuminated at night) at the entrance. On arrival just after 1300 room was ready and were able to park the car outside the door of our waterfront suite.

RECEPTION
Check in times 1300 to 1900. Check out is 1000. Prior arrangements required if outside these times. Reception is responsible for the restaurant reservations (essential) and use of the free dinghy boats, bicycles and tennis courts.

ROOMS
We stayed in a waterfront suite. Lovely modern and clean minimalist rooms with air-conditioning, heating,, tea, coffee, sugar and milk provided, fridge, kettle, toaster, coffee plunger (& ground coffee), champagne/wine/soft drink glasses, bottle & can opener & colour TV, video and CD player. Good lighting in the rooms with a floor to ceiling sliding door that opened onto the deck where the wallabies would jump on and sit and watch us. Secure windows one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. Good storage space for bags & wardrobe items. Bathroom amenities were shower cap, shampoo/conditioner & soaps. There are horizontal black blinds that close on all windows & doors for privacy. Even though the suites are adjoined we were not disturbed during our stay.

FACILITIES
It was easy to locate the guest laundry, dinghy boats, tennis court, and bicycles. The restaurant was only opened for dinner with the recommendation to make reservations by 1300. The food and service were outstanding.

AREA
Just a short drive into the town of Coles Bay where a bottle shop, bakery, grocer, post office, information point, pub and other accommodation options can be found. Freycinet Lodge is a short drive beyond the town (only minutes) and if time allows stop at the bistro for lunch as the views and food are wonderful. We explored the area easily, ample parking and the purchase was required of a National Parks pass to enter the Freycinet National Park, $20 for 24 hours (other options available) and that allows a climb to view Wineglass Bay lookout & other walks with a free map available from the Park Pass office just after the Freycinet Lodge and before the Wineglass Bay walking tracks car park.

My teenage daugher and I stayed at The Edge of the Bay in January 2006 for approximately 3 nights. The hotel is beautifully located and very peaceful. You can step out of your room and be right next to the water. The rooms are comfortable and after travelling through the whole of Tasmania this was certainly the highlight of our trip. The service at the hotel was excellent and the restaurant definitely the best on our trip. The food was top class and the service outstanding. Would definitely return to the hotel.

We stayed for 2 nights in a Waterfront Suite which was literally right on the water overlooking "The Hazards" in Freycinet National Park. The sunsets were amazing to watch from both our room and the restaurant as they both had floor to ceiling glass windows.

Our first morning we were greeted by a wallaby and her joey after venturing onto our patio. Natural vegetation lies between the suites and the water and is home to both wallabies and numerous bird species.

The restaurant is open for dinner only, however we found we were rarely in the resort during the day as there are numerous walks to do in the National Park, and wineries to visit also. The food was superb, certainly up there with the best Hobart has to offer.

I would highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting Tasmania's East Coast - in our opinion it is the best on offer by a long shot.

Arrived in Hobart and drove straight to Coles Bay which is right next to/part of the Freycinet National Park about 2 hours drive up the east coast.
We arrived on a gorgeous sunny day and the accommodation was fantastic, 5 star and worth every cent. We had a beautiful view over the bay and overlooking the freycinet mountains/national park and 3 wallabies greeted us outside near our verandah. Room was very nice, spacious and modern, everything we needed and wanted, restaurant was superb (ate there both nights it was that good, service was excellent too). Wouldn't miss this part of the world for anything, we checked out the other accommodation places and were so glad we picked here. A must is walking up to Wineglass Bay Lookout, worth the hike!!

We recently stayed at Edge of the Bay and cut short what was to be a 4 day stay after encountering the rudest person we have ever come across.

While the rooms do afford great views we walked out after one night due to the arrogance of this person and will never ever set foot again in any business he is involved with.

After having left we stopped at local tourism information centres and the man in charge said that they had stopped sending people to the Edge of the Bay because of this obnoxious person. It is easy to see why after our encounter.

I urge you only to refer someone to this place if you truly dislike them.

Really liked this place. It was calm and relaxing. The suites are modern, very well-laid out with full length sliding doors to deck and a wonderful peaceful view of the bay and the hills in background. Bed was large, good bathroom, useful kitchenette. I wouldn't describe it as luxurious or posh, but it was comfortable, quiet, spacious, quite stylish, with a great view - things which are the main priorities for me. Also loved the restaurant - nice atmosphere and great food. It was full every night with mix of guests and non-guests. We were there end January, peak season, so needed to book dinner table in advance. When the sun sets, the whole restaurant goes quiet and watches. We borrowed bikes and cycled into Coles Bay - not far, but road is quite busy and fast (so not recommended at night). January gets very booked up everywhere in Tasmania, so recommend booking early (at least 1-2 months in advance) as there is very limited choice of accommodation in many places. There are no bargains at that time of year, but although we paid full price here, we were very satisfied and preferred it to the Freycinet Lodge (which we also stayed in and was more expensive).

We stayed here for 2 nights (January 06) in a waterfront suite. Firstly, the setting is amazing, beautiful and peaceful on Great Oyster Bay with views of Freycinet and the amazing Hazards. The resort has blended itself in so well within this setting and the rooms are very well designed.
The rooms have a kitchenette, lounge area, beautiful comfy bed, tv/cd/dvd, large modern bathroom and private outdoor deck to relax and watch the mesmerising hazards.
It felt very luxurious lying in bed with floor to ceiling glass views of the bay and hazards.
Beautiful beaches are a direct walk from your room. The resort also has tennis courts and row boats free to use and laundries.
We dined both nights at the restaurant (other dining options are available at nearby Coles Bay a short drive away) but the food and service here is fantastic.
We were visited often by families of Bennets Wallabies that live within the grounds.
It is definetely worth looking at the resorts website to give you a visual idea of how beautiful the setting is and the quality of the rooms.
Can't wait to stay here again !!
