We had an unforgettable stay at the Red Feather. First off, the inn is beautifully decorated and the property is well maintained (walk around the orchard and vegetable garden in the back to see what will be on your plate!). If I could, I would move in. Or, take the property home with me, decorations included. Visually, everything was perfect. Secondly, our hosts, Ian and Tanya, went above and beyond all expectations. They went out of their way for all the guests and could not have provided service and hospitality. Thirdly, the food was incredible and of the highest quality. On the Friday night that we were there, Ian and Tanya prepared and served us and the other guests (there were 8 of us in total, the inn was full) what can only be described as a wonderful feast. We all started out as strangers, but left as friends after our enjoyable meal (the unlimited wine, attentively poured by Ian, probably aided in this!). My mother and I had an incredible stay here. If I lived in Melbourne, I would make the Red Feather a regular weekend getaway. And don't forget to greet the two, snow white doves in the dovecote out back!

Room Tip: My mother and I shared the Red Feather room but we got to see some of the others. They are all large and spacious with big, modern bathrooms. Don't choose the Attic if you can't do stairs, since that is the only way up.

A beautiful period building set among acres of manicured gardens. The restaurant has it's own vegetable and herb garden so everything is freshly picked and all other ingredients are sourced locally where possible. The decor in our room was intimate and spacious. Magnificent bathroom with sandstone floor and free standing bath. King bed with TV in both the bedroom and loungeroom. Self contained kitchen with everything you could want. We stayed for New Year and had the whole building to ourselves together with our own private chef and butler. The gourmet food, wines and ciders were of the best quality and were were told to help ourselves to anything we needed. The managers are both highly qualified in their respective fields and were a fountain of information on the building, area, food and wines. Definately a place to experience for that very special occasion.

Room Tip: The Library Suite is the largest of all suites

This beautiful and luxurious restored inn, tucked away in a peaceful country town allows you the time and place to retreat, rest, relax and recharge. We stayed in the lavish Library Suite and each morning enjoyed the sumptuous breakfast served by Tania and Ian. The evening meal prepared by Tania was very enjoyable following an afternoon of fly fishing just out of Longford. This was two days of perfect serenity.

The Red Feather is a delightful island in ordinary little town. It has great atmosphere of a French Provencal rural villa, right down to the white doves that greet you on the driveway. The owner has done a superb job in creating this atmosphere, and there is meticulous attention to detail. The gardens and courtyard are manicured and inviting, seats and tables abound, artifacts, sculptures, and interesting objects add interest, and make for a genuine feel of rural France
The rooms are very comfortable, quiet, and fully equipped. The service is personal and efficient. The food is interesting and locally based.
Certainly the best and most interesting up-market accommodation in Northern Tasmania
