My family stayed in both cottages for three nights in April 2014 and had the most wonderful time. The views are magnificent, the accommodation perfect and the hospitality outstanding. Both the Heritage and the Hobbit Cottage offer open fires, tasty home baked bread and fine touches that make for a pleasurable stay. This truly is a hidden gem - a home away from home. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a location to remember. A big "thank-you" to the new owners.

As a party of 4 adults we stayed for 3 nights in Heritage Cottage and were amongst the first guests of the new owners Belinda and Ian who appear to be doing a fabulous job welcoming their guests - nothing was too much trouble. The cottage is a delight, an original convict cottage moved and rebuilt, it is spacious, well decorated and equipped and has fabulous outlooks over the farm from all windows. We had a sneak peak at Hobbit cottage whilst it was empty and that is equally lovely. On arrival the kitchen was fully stocked with eggs, jam, bread, milk etc.

Blackwood is a 70 acre working farm with sheep and alpacca and we enjoyed helping to feed the alpacca and having a good look around the traditional sheering shed which is incredibly atmosperic. We spent time just walking around the property and taking in the peace and quite and ever changing incredible views of the Western Tiers and ranges. A tip for future visitors is to ask to look at the view from Hill Paddock - it is simply stunning

There is so much to do in the surrounding area that we ran out of time so we will definitely be back and next time it will be for a longer stay.

We had to laugh when on the first night of our stay a group of cattle came walking up the drive, jumped over a fence and settled into the paddock by our cottage - they stayed put overnight and their owner eventually collected them the following evening - it seems even the cows appreciate Blackwood!

Room Tip: Both cottages are beautiful with lovely gardens and outlooks but Heritage is the larger of the 2

We were the first guests of the new owners, but we had a very trouble free stay! The cottage is delightful - so spacious. I have only one criticism, & that is that a lamp or two in the sitting area would make it much nicer in the evenings . Bathrooms well equipped - & again - so much space. Lovely simple decor throughout.
We so enjoyed having the animals up close - especially the alpacas!
The gardens are a real delight, beautifully laid out - who designed them? The situation is so quiet & surrounded by the most beautiful country. A pity we had only 2 nights there, our friends who live in Australia will probably return for at least a week!

Room Tip: Both rooms were lovely.

Gwen, we are so glad that you enjoyed the stay and hope you've arrived back in Oxford safely. We appreciate your suggestion re the standard lamps in Hobbit and are already actively on the look out for some that are in keeping with the accommodation. Thanks again. Ian & Belinda.

We stayed in the Hobbit cottage for a week with our 2 and 4 year old. After arriving late at night it was a pleasant surprise to find the kitchen stocked with essentials or the morning. The cottage and surrounds were lovely and the children loved exploring and seeing the animals.

The cottage was well located between Launceston and Cradle Mountain and there was plenty to do locally. The nearest large supermarket to purchase food was Deloraine around 20 to 30 minutes away.

Cant fault the place and would loved to return in the future.

My partner and I stayed in the heritage cottage for 1 night and loved our stay. As soon as we walked in we were wowed by the beautiful heritage style of the cottage and quaint appearance.

The smell of freshly baked good filled the air and I walked into the kitchen to inspect, where I found a rustic loaf of freshly baked bread and four yummy muffins covered with a tea towel. What a treat!

The fire was already lit and warming the house when we arrived and we sat by the fire with a wine before dinner. Instead of eating out that night we decided to make use of the cooking facilities and make ourselves a nice home cooked meal, so we be ventured down to IGA to purchase some ingredients.

We ate our dinner at the kitchen table, enjoyed with a glass of Tassie wine we picked up from Cambell Town and relaxed.

Afterwards we retreated to the the lounge in front of the fireplace and watches some TV.

In the morning we cooked ourselves some eggs on toast - with eggs that were provided for us, accompanied by an orange juice, which was also provided.

The sheep are just out the back and you can see them from the window and lucky for us they were lambing at the time we stayed so we got to see many newly born lambs prancing around the farm. On the other side of the house you can sit an watch the Alpacas and their antics. This just added to the country, homely feel of the cottage.

My only negative that I have to point out is the fact that there were no keys to the cottage and when you go out you have to leave the door unlocked as you can only lock it from the inside.

Also, in the heritage cottage the ensuite bathroom window does not lock and can be completely opened. The window is not high and has a large opening so someone could easily enter the cottage this way. This is something I feel necessary to point out, because when you're on holiday you're not sure what the town is like your staying or the people are like at the place you are staying and it's important to feel safe in your accomodation. My partner made a makeshift lock for the window so We could have a good nights sleep.

I definately think this Should be fixed. We will be back - hopefully this gets resolved before we return.

What a beautiful and private place. When we opened our cottage we were greeted with a warm fire and the smell of freshly baked bread. What a treat. It is filled with lovely little extras such as freash coffee, milk, orange jouce, jams and butter, books, dvds and games. You can enjoy a lovely walk through out the farm and chat to the animals. Its a lovely place to relax and invigorate. It suits romantics and families as it is so private you feel you are totally on your own. The only negitive to say is we only had 1 night and could have easily stayed longer. Add this place to your trip and you wont be disappointed. Michelle and Alan were lovely and although not tassie born and breed were just what Tassie is all about. Thank you for sharing your paradise with us and we will be back.
