“Perfect break for a family with young child.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

Me, my husband and 2 year old daughter have just returned from a long weekend at Heimat Chalets. I've never written a review of anywhere I've stayed before, but it was so lovely I felt compelled! The hosts were just right - very welcoming and provided us with lots of useful advice about family friendly places to visit. The breakfast they provided for the first day was v special - home made bread and fresh eggs from the local chooks.

Our daughter was thrilled being able to participate in feeding the animals, and she loved the cubby house in the playground, and the toy box next to her bed! Even in winter the place was magical. Would love to be able to return.

Thanks so much Judith for your terrific review. We enjoyed having you here and showing off our menagerie of farm animals.

For the information of others, for guests staying in our luxury gypsy wagon or self contained chalets and cottage we offer continental breakfast for the first morning of any stay. For bookings of more than 1 night we will often bake a loaf of homemade bread to include with breakfasts. And if our assortment of chooks is cooperative we try to include some of their free range eggs - unfortunately in Winter they go off laying and at the moment our eggs are almost as scarce as hens teeth!

We stayed in Heimat Chalet Motorhome pad with private ensuite.
It was a great stay (albeit a bit windy due to the weather).

The property is in a quiet location with great views and privacy. There are several shared areas (open BBQ area, a little hut with open fireplace + BBQ) for people to use. Families with children will enjoy it as there are animals (alpacas / chickens / cows / sheep / donkeys) to feed.

When compared to other caravan sites, this is a unique set up that people with motorhomes and caravans will definitely enjoy.

Perfect hosts - Excellent accommodation, will stay here again on my next visit to the island. Don't be put off by the distance out of town, 5 minutes, the setting and views will impress you as well as the feeling of peace that you are surrounded by certainly make up for it.

We booked last minute expecting something a little more than ordinary, that is exactly what we got. The peace and quiet was absolute and allowed for a lovely nights stay in a very well decorated and kept chalet wagon.

we stayed in the luxury gypsy wagon for a night. really enjoyed the stay! the wagon was so intricately decorated, with alot of effort and thought put into it to maximise the space available. they provided us with a breakfast basket when we checked in, contained yogurt, cereal, muffins, milk and homemade jam. we were invited to the feeding of the animals at 9.30am, which was so much fun!! frank and linda introduced their animals to us, and we had fun conversing with them for an hour, we didnt want to leave! a pity we only stayed for 1 night, wished we stayed longer..

I'd really been looking forward to coming here and stayed for 4 nights but compared with the other self catering houses we visited it was small and over priced. We loved the setting; enjoying walking through the paddocks. The bedrooms were large with beautiful linen but the rest of the chalet cramped even for two people. There was nowhere to store food, which remained in boxes on the floor, the small fridge was full of unwanted booze. The only cooking was a plug- in cook top which took over most of the bench and would have smelt the place out as there was no extractor fan. Even the microwave was awkward as the door opened the wrong way. We sat outside on the balcony one evening enjoying the view of a magnificent gum tree but were serenaded by the water pump which seemed to supply other venues as it was on and off all day and night.
A washing machine was available but I didn't feel comfortable using it as it was intruding on the en suite caravanners. There was an extra fee whereas at other venues this had been included.
All in all a less than satisfactory visit from well traveled tourists.

Thankyou for your feedback - we are really disappointed that you feel that way about your stay at Heimat Chalets. Different people obviously have different expectations. With a 96% rating from Tripadvisor and having won the 2013 Tasmanian People's Choice Award, the vast majority of feedback from our guests has been extremely positive about their stay here, their wonderful farmstay experience interacting with our menagerie of animals, and our very competitive value for money.

Highly Recommended! Frank and Linda showed hospitality second to none, the view was fantastic and the chalets clean as anything. Excellent farm animals to check out and the eggs, bread, milk and cereals made the experience even more enjoyable!
