“a paddock with signs”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

Really nothing there that would validate going off the highway to visit this place. The town is gorgeous, but there's really nothing to see at female factory, its literally a paddock with a few signs in it - youll do better with google. They could do so much more.

“A sense of history”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

A very informative and interesting site. As we visited off season, the main building was closed. Even though you could wander through the site only, the large information boards told you plenty and enabled us to visualise the unfortunate people who lived there and the deprivation that they suffered, including not being allowed to see their children. Tough times indeed, and those poor children, who had done nothing.

“not advertised enough”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

This is a great stop although the ruins are nearly all gone their is a small part of the outside stone wall left to show the size I didn't realise it was open until I tried the door, you can just walk straight in there is no entry fee and their is information on all the walls(so lots of reading) as well as the model of what it had been like. The information on the walls was very thorough and included those in charge of this factory. I found it very interesting especially as I had already visited cascades female factory in hobart as this was built later than cascades I found it interesting to see the type of female convicts who lived here as well as the survival rate for the babies born here their life was still harsh but not to the same extent as cascades. The outside yards list the different yards of the prision and what happened there. I didn't get a chance to walk to the old burial ground.
