“The history of wool in Australia”
Reviewed 7 April 2013

This is an interesting place not for the goods on sale but for the history of sheep and wool production in Australia. It give you a pretty good picture of the history of wool in Australia from the 19th century to the present. Worth while and the products that are on sale are good as well.

“Take the Ross exit from the Midland Highway”
Reviewed 26 March 2013

Every so often, you follow advice that takes you off the main route - in this case, the Midland Highway between Launceston and Hobart. We're glad we did!

The town of Ross is about the half-way point of this trip, and a great place to break the journey.

Ross has three attractions to interest you, along with lunch facilities.

First stop should be at the Tasmanian Wool Centre. It's on Church Street, and there's lots of free parking.

The Wool Centre has a number of exhibits that describe the wool trade, with lots of purchase opportunities for fine wool products. When we were there, it was free admission, but we saw information boards ready for display that indicated a forthcoming admission charge.

Here, you should pick up a free walking map of the town, which shows how to get to the Ross Bridge and the Ross Female Factory. A visit to both of these will reinforce your decision to take the side trip off the highway!!

“Really interesting display at the back of the centre... allow plenty of time”
Reviewed 26 March 2013

Beautiful woollen wear but the hero was the historical display at the back. I could have spent far longer there and it was a snapshot of colonial times. Don't ,iss it and leave a generous donation!

“Story of Wool in Tassie”
Reviewed 22 March 2013

We could have spent a lot of time in this fascinating museum and woollen store. There are hands on and static exhibits as well as a DVD playing. The building is very historic and all is well laid out and easy to follow. Some wonderful garments to purchase. Well worth a visit. Donation box inside but no entry charge. Well done to the staff here.
