The hotel has seen better days but is still in a great location, being just across the road from a surf beach. Rooms a good size, bed firm, bathroom clean. If you get a good deal, it is a reasonable place to stay on the coast just south of St Helens. I would recommend eating at White sands Estate 15 mins south.

the hotel looks tired, but for us we do a lot of road trips and it would have been Amazing in its day. our room (27) was New Bed, New Bathroom, new carpet, very clean and great view of the Ocean. The only Disapointment we had was that TV was old and we were to stay the Sunday & Monday night and the Chief had his day off both days, bad planning pn my account, as the food is supposed to be fantastic.
So we ended only staying the Sunday.
for $65 per night you culd not even get a B&B for this in the area

Very basic, some rooms quite run down though clean at least. Second time staying here. The playpark had some dangerous OH&S issues, the pool freezing, the outdoor tables crumbling, the gardens overgrown, the ciggarette ends all over the lawns. U get what u pay for!!

Room Tip: somewhere else

We booked a couple of rooms (2 families travelling) with misgivings after reading the previous reviews, but no alternative available anywhere nearby. The proprietor was very helpful in rearranging a bus load in order to get us two rooms, so we were grateful for that. We were prepared for an old, run-down motel, and our first impression probably only confirmed this. However, our rooms were clean and the lift was very handy as we were on the 2nd floor.

Dinner in the restaurant was exceptional. When we arrived at the motel we were advised to book a table as they were filling fast, and we were glad we did. The aforementioned busload had not made a booking though, so the kitchen must have been frantic. However, we were happy to wait (we are late diners), and in the end were the last diners there. That was fine by us, and we were rewarded by a fabulous meal and very good service by the wait staff.

We didn't order breakfast as we had already planned to eat along the road, so can't comment on that. The views from our balcony were lovely, overlooking the beach.

Yes, we'd recommend the Scamander Beach Resort, just don't expect it to be 5 star and eat at the restaurant and you should be satisfied.

We were lured into booking here by a telephone campaign offering buy 1, get 1 free night. Arrived in the evening about 8pm, reception staff very friendly - but the promised family room turned out to be in the lowest, run down part of the hotel, not in the refurbished & new as promised. Family room is reaching too high as well, they needed to chuck out all tables and chairs to make room for kids bunk beds. Reception staff handed me a list of breakfast choices, which I looked over once checked into the mangy room. Ticking the boxes, my wife said we had to drop the menu into reception and they'd deliver brekky in the morning. Surely not?? I LOVE to have brekky in the big dining room overlooking the sea .... but no, dining room was closed due to season!! In the morning we heard a knock at the door, and then found cold toast and condiments, lukewarm coffee on the ground. We had to take turns eating on the dresser because they removed all chairs and table. When I was ready to explode upstairs, my wife wanted to make her views known too (good on her). Reception lady was very professional and friendly, not her fault, bla bla bla, but we didn't have to pay for the night .... ($80 for privilege to book a special-deal-room had already been booked off our account) .... however, as I walked around looking at things, through the LOCKED doors of the dining room I watched a woman enjoying breakfast by herself, food spread out over a large table, the whole area overlooking the sea and shore had been opened up for her to enjoy a beautiful morning brekky.

Yep, you guessed it.
The owner.

Lied about the renovated room. Lied about available family rooms. Lied about locked dining room. Only interested in our gold coin.

Not quite the Australian hospitality we've experienced in most other establishments.

Room Tip: ... don't even try .... they're gonna tell you fibs

My fiancee and I are travelling around Tasmania to celebrate our recent engagement. The photos online do not do the property justice - it is truly more heinous than you can imagine. We checked in, dubiously, and five minutes later, upon recovering from how truly awful the room is, we checked back out. The reception guy was nice, though by his reaction, this must happen often. We have driven on to Swansea and have found somewhere that doesn't look like it will give us an STD.... I doubt they could even get away with charging by the hour..... Unfortunately we were led here by a Living Social deal, and so could not get a refund - money wasted. Guess the joke's on us.
