Anchor Wheel Motel
Ranked #3 of 5 St Helens B&B and Inns

This was by far the cheapest accommodation we found in our recent tour of Tasmania but it was also one of the best places. The rooms are well equipped and clean and the proprietor, Jan,who is an interesting person, really likes to make sure that her guests have everthing they need.Things which you pay extra for in most places eg laundry, breakfast are included in the already low price.
The restaurant draws in people from other motels and locals and the food is delicious.Grilled Trevella and chips was a treat!
There are not many places like the Anchor Wheel left anywhere. We would recommend it to all our friends. Long may it thrive!

saw the advert in a travelers guide, rang Jan just on spec, booked in, going on the price,we were on a tight budget, the room was a very plesant suprise, very clean, and had all that you needed, a very comfortable bed, lots of room including a small table & chairs, tv could be improved(not digital) although you could borrow dvd's from the office. After a really good nights sleep,Iwent out to the car that was covered in a very heavy dewn and found that JAN had been around to each car and placed a small hand towel on the bonnet," now that I call old fasioned service!" If I return to st.Helens, that is where I will stay.

I only stayed one night to break my long journey. The room was good sized and very colourful, with fridge, toaster, coffee maker, etc. Jan was very pleasant and likes to chat with her guests. She also does the cooking for the restaurnat, which is very popular with the locals (You may need to reserve a table at weekends) Good menu and good food. Continental breakfast is delivered to your room during the evening. This is on a main road, but a very quiet area at night and all the rooms face the car park. It was certainly a relaxing place to stop on a long journey.

Room Tip: all rooms the same

Jan at the motel was very professional and helpful. The bedroom (and bed) was comfy and there was a small table & chairs in the bay window. The bathroom was a bit tired but overall for the price paid, the accommodation was above average. Clean and all things you would expect to find. Unfortunately the restaurant was not open on a Monday night but that looked comfortable too and the menu was varied. Jan offered free wi-fi - a bonus! We are a couple of seniors who travel quite a bit.

Room Tip: Have one with a bay window - they seem quite spacious.

We enjoyed our overnight stay here in St Helens. The motel was a typical 70's style country motel offering excellent value.
The room were spacious, clean & comfortable. The wi-fi connection and complimentary breakfast were welcome bonuses.
Would stay again next time in St Helens

I really didn't know what to expect in a little place like St. Helens, Tasmania, but this motel was a gem. Firstly, good sized rooms, comfortable and nicely appointed. To use the washing machine only $2 instead of the $4 paid elsewhere and the drier was free, saving another $4. The location is close to town and quiet. The biggest plus was the restaurant attached, great meals at a reasonable price. The lady who runs the motel does the cooking and as she says, her last chef left 6 months ago and restaurant patronage has been increasing ever since. I couldn't be more happy with a motel. Oh, by the way, the Saturday markets in town have the best and cheapest wood turning products at a third of the prices at Hobart's Salamanca Markets.

We stayed there for an over night on way to see Bay of Fires and dine at Blue Shed Restaurant. The place was clean and the beds were comfortable. The best part was it had wireless Internet and breakfast complimentary. Would definitely stay there again on next visit.
