What can I say about this little hotel. Set right below what locals refer to as The Nut the location is excellent and the view is not too shabby. I found this hotel based on some awards in Hotel Excellence they have won over many years. I am not familiar with the Australia Hotel Association and can not understand for the life of me how on earth this Bistro got any sort of award.
My young family and I arrived just before 12pm and were told we could sit and order a drink but couldn't place an order BEFORE 12pm. And sat we did. A nice selection of wine although some were very overpriced, hubby and I ordered Cascade on tap, yum. Our kids (3 and 14) ordered lemonade.
Smack bang on 12pm a load of people entered the bistro and even though we had been sitting there patiently waiting 4 tables had their orders taken before ours, nice!
45 minutes for our food to arrive, we all ordered mains. Twice the waitress approached us regarding their special of Shepard's Pie. Once because the kitchen does not make Mashed Potato during Lunch Service and would my husband mind having Roasted Potatoes, fine. The second time to tell us that it might take a little longer for the Roasted Potato to cook. Brilliant.
It was not worth the wait, the Shepard's Pie looked like a dogs dinner, and the "Mash" on top looked and tasted very much like Deb Instant Potato. The Lamb filling was decorated with frozen peas and carrot. It tasted foul.
I had the Steak Sandwich with chips. On a half long roll I was served a stone cold steak, NOT cooked Medium like I asked, very well done, it came with caramelised onions, apparently home made chutney that had sultanas scattered in it, and get this CHEDDAR CHEESE!! It was just vile.
Our daughters shared the Chicken Wrap with Caesar Dressing which was also cold as well as the soggy stale chips.
No one was happy and when I called over the waitress to let her know how terrible the food was she sighed and said "Oh well we can cook it for you again it's just going to take a long time as we have like 15 other orders now."
Never ever again, 2 beers, 2 lemonades 1 Steak Sandwich, 1 Chicken Wrap and 1 Shepard's Pie costs us $75.
A very disappointing Sunday Lunch!
