Too steep to climb. Chair lift CLOSED for winter. Stanley's main attraction is closed to all but the young and fit.

Even it doesn't look very high, after we chair lift to the nut, we are stocked of such beauty view. Best place to see whole Stanley area. Unless you like water sport on the lovely clearest sea water, you only need spend a few hours in Stanley and mainly spend on the nut. We bought live lobster there. The freshest we ever tasted in Australia.

It's not an especially long walk nor a great elevation but the footpath up/down is astonishingly steep in parts. The effort is more than worth it though. It's interesting how the vegetation changes between the landward and seaward sides of the Nut. We took the route anti-clockwise and so started through dense bush with a variety of wildlife, including pademelons. On the way back it was mostly grass with clear views across the Bass Strait. The Nut also provides fine views both east and west along the northern coastline of Tasmania.

We enjoyed the unique nature of a visit to the top of The Nut. The weather was perfect when we were there and the view was spectacular, made all the better by taking the chairlift. We think this is well worth the visit.

What a magical place in the world, no wonder Darwin wanted to emigrate to Tasmania after seeing Stanley. However, please open the chairlift for winter explorers!!
