We scaled the nut early before breakfast - and took the 2.5km walk around the top. It was pretty cold, and the walk up there is breathtaking - as in so steep and hard work we were breathless!! Def made a big breakfast more worthwhile at Moby Dicks Breakfast Bar after!
Liked it all! A good walk up, around & down again. You can see all points of the isthmus and it's beautiful from up there. Really worth the hike up.
This a must do in Stanley. Even in the winter when the chairlift is not operating, tackle the paved zig-zag path to the top. One at the top it is relatively easy walking the 45 minute circular path at the top and views are worth the effort.
As you drive along the coast the view is dominated by this amazing volcanic plug called "The Nut". Heading into Stanley it is pleasing to see that the village has retained a quaint air reminiscent of its origins as a fishing village. It is pleasant to stroll about the village but the real attraction is the Nut itself. In winter the chair lift is not operating and so there is only one option and that is to climb. And so we did. While the rest of Australia froze even as far as Queensland, it was business as usual in Tasmania. a cold but sunny day. We took our time climbing as it is quite steep but there are plenty f places to stop and enjoy the view. It is windy, as the Nut is situated out into the strait but the views are breathtaking. Highly recommended to follow up the walk with lunch or dinner at the local Hotel.
"Climbing" The Nut is well worth the effort. Allow an hour, but much more for sunrise and especially sunset photos. The chairlift is an option, but closed in winter. Can be quite windy up there.
The views to the west over Highfield and Cape Grim are breathtaking, not to mention the odd whale passing the headland.
Had a wonderful walk up to the top of Stanley's Nut! Didn't realise how steep it was but was indeed a fantastic walk and it added to the adventure! (plus for the less fit there are spots to rest on the walk up and enjoy the ever changing view!) When we got to the top, Talk about wallabies...Everywhere so cute and very quiet!!! Chairlift Open months were clearly signed on location and on website prior to visiting!
Cheers Stanley!
