“Sensational at Stanley”
Reviewed 21 April 2014 via mobile

We had come across the cable station's yummy wood fired seafood creations at various festivals around Tassie (see restaurant review) and also liked the look of their accommodation.

Our family of four (8 & 11) had a three night stay in the technician's cottage over Easter and loved every bit of it.

Provisions included in your room rate include the normal kind of brekky stuff bacon, eggs, sausages, juice, cereal etc which is replenished daily BUT you are also greeted on arrival with the lovely touch of cheeses, truffle chocolates, red & white wine, scotch and vodka.

Plus you quickly notice it is all local produce.

The three bedroom, two bathroom cottage is beautifully appointed with brand new quality fittings - double shower, double vanity, stand alone bath, heated bathroom floors, full kitchen.

Here's what our 8 year Abi old wrote:
The Cable Station is the ultimate place to go for a holiday. You are only 5 minutes away from the amazing tourist attraction The Nut. The Nut is a big rock and bush covered hill with a chairlift if your legs are tired or you are just a bit lazy. Now back to the Cable Station. The Cable Station is a accommodation  5 star.  It has  a big enough apartment for a family of 6. I love the Cable Station and would always come back if was asked to.

Highly recommended.

Spent one night here in first week July with two 10 year old boys. Wow. What an amazing place. We wanted the cottage which was booked out so Don & Charlotte had arranged for us to have the telegraph room with a fold out for one of the kids. When we arrived though there was a cancellation, so we were moved into the cottage. It was unbelievable, beautifully decorated throughout and a gorgeous place to unwind and just relax and enjoy the fire and a good bottle of wine. Hubby and kids got to enjoy a 4-5 course meal in the restaurant, and they loved it. Kids ate everything, even though the menu was tailored to adults. Overall, they thought the food was amazing.
Don & Charlotte were friendly and accommodating and we couldnt recommend enough that you get out to this little corner of Tas and check it out.

Room Tip: Cant go past the cottage with a family. Its massive, clean and beautiful.

I have just spent the best weekend with my fabulous husband and "besties" at the cable station as a 50th birthday present. Our room presentation was beautiful, the bed was so comfortable. The local goodies in our breakfast baskets and in the cottage were top class. Best of all was the amazing dinner Charlotte had produced for my special birthday treat, from the roasted artichoke soup, fabulous slow cooked beef or mouth watering salmon then to a wonderful yummy chocolate mouse cake for dessert. Charlotte is an amazing chef. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cozy, warm and very inviting. I can't wait till we can come back again. Thanks guys for a fabulous experience.

Room Tip: Try one of the special rooms.

After arriving in the beautiful seaside town of Stanley, a truly unique and indulgent experience awaits at the Old Cable Station. Feast your eyes and stomach with the tranquil surrounds and experience of the restaurant. Showcasing local produce, the oven cooked crayfish was the smash of the evenings dining. We sincerely thanks our hosts for being guests at their magnificent piece of paradise. Highly recommended stop on your trip to Tasmania.

Room Tip: Guest cottage was spacious and very comfortable. Wood fire was magic.

On arriving we were shown to our beautiful King Room which contained a large bathroom with full size claw bath, shower and basin, kitchenette, dining table with 2 chairs and large flat screen TV. A sliding glass door opened onto an outside patio with table and chairs overlooking beautiful Cape Grim Beef cattle crazing contentedly with the blue Southern Ocean in the distance. The king bed was very comfortable with electric blanket and our room had been heated comfortably with an oil heater. Even though the night was cold outside we did not need to use the electric blanket or the heater. We dined in the restaurant enjoying magnificent food prepared by Charlotte, who in our opinion is equal to a 3 hat chef and masterchef. The 5 course degustation was included in our $279 per night tariff along with a breakfast basket, in our room, containing 2 bottles of orange juice, muesli, cornflakes, Red Cow Dairy fresh milk, 6 slices of bread for toasting, Motham Farm delicious Goat Yoghurt, 2 mandarines, 2 different home made jams & vegemite. A selection of 6 different teas were also available and coffee. On arrival Don had placed a 22 Deg South bubbly in our fridge ($43) and we also enjoyed a bottle of chilled Savignon Blanc ($50) from near Penguin. 2 glasses of chilled local Riesling ($11 per glass) with our meal was delicious. If you go without the wine the bed, dinner and breakfast deal is great value at $279.

Room Tip: Ask for the King Room, there is also a spa bath room but only has Queen bed.

My partner and I enjoyed a stay and dine package at the Cable Station. Everything about our weekend away was fantastic. The room was well set-up, modern and clean. We really enjoyed the high quality and locally sourced toiletries, and the lavish breakfast hamper (again filled with locally sourced produce).
Our hosts Euan and Jacqueline were friendly and helpful. The dinner (with wood-fired lobster) was delicious, as was the rest of our meal. The restaurant was intimate, with comfortable couches and a big open fire. And better yet, once we'd finished dinner there was no bill to settle, we could just roll our the door and into our comfy bed.
All in all a great night away. We've recommended and raved about it since.
