“Meals are a ripoff”
Reviewed 3 July 2013

Dined with my family - approx $20 per head.
Nachos = stale corn chips and store bought sauce - meat was cold.
ordered garlic & cranberry prawns - told by table help 5
min later - run out of cranberry sauce - alarm bells - sub garlic prawns - reheated frozen prawns with bottled sweet chilli sauce. One hour later special board hadn't been altered.

All dishes with salad - blunt end of lettuce, one slice of
tinned beetroot, small 1/8 tomato, diced carrot, no sauce.

teenagers couldn't eat chicken parmy and schnitzel, dry, reheated frozen stuff.

Passed my critique to staff, they couldn't see problem.

This was a great place to stay. Lots of room and comfort but away from the tourist buzz. Great food in the tavern. Not five star but it didn't claim to be, just good value and very good comfort. Clean as a whistle. Highly recommend. Pity the train isn't currently running, as it was terrific to get off the wonderful Abt train ride, slightly inebriated and walk across the road to our accommodation.

Stayed here 2 nights with husband and 2 kids. The Regatta Point Tavern is the original wharfie pub in town but has seen better days. There are a block of 4 units set next to and above the tavern with nice views over the Harbour (but a terrible driveway next to the units). Definitely not the most salubrious, and as others have noted, dated and look a bit "dodgy" but really are ok. Clean, well fitted out kitchen, reverse cycle a/c. The tavern owner is friendly and helpful. Guests can use the laundry at the back of the tavern. Big downside - with a broken (unfixable) aerial, there is no WiFi in the units it is a trapse down to the pub if you want to email.

My husband and I stayed 1 night at the Regatta Point. I was quite pleased with the accommodation considering the price. We were given a self-contained 2-bedroom even though it was just the 2 of us. Indeed, the rooms are very old-fashioned and could do with some touch-up, but everything was quite clean. Check-in is done at the adjacent tavern and Vicki who helped us was very friendly and just lovely. The property is a little out of the way (but Strahan isn't huge anyway) and just by the sea, which was beautiful for the sunset. It's also next to the West Coast Wilderness Railway terminal. Don't let that scare you because it's just for the antique tourist railway tour and there are only 2 - 3 trains per day, and they don't depart early nor arrive late. Didn't disturb us at all, and allowed us to take pictures with the antique train before we went on our way. What I would REALLY recommend for people staying there or not, is having dinner at the tavern! Yummy and hearty meals at very reasonable prices!

On arrival we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom unit number 4 on the "hill". Vicki who also works in the bar was very friendly and gave us some complimentary milk for tea and coffee. The unit is dated as previous reviewers have stated but with some hidden gems. Great quality towels, heater lights in the ceiling, electric blankets on a comfortable but firm bed, great quality cotton bedding, portable heater, reverse air conditioning, eco friendly cosmetic mini shampoo, conditioner and moisturiser. Also wi fi was good in the restaurant. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room 4 will mean neighbours on one side only.

At first sight we were tempted to drive on, as the accommodation units look like dodgy demountables put there for pub patrons who'd had a few too many to drive home.
But in this case looks were deceiving and we spent two perfectly comfortable nights there with no noise or hassles from the tavern. The only noise was the wind blowing at such force one night that the plywood walls behind the bed head were moving! But the heating was fine and the shower was hot, so no issues there.
It was no frills but honest budget accommodation for Strahan (ideal for a family, with plenty of beds) close enough to the water to provide a pleasant environment and outlook.
We also had a good meal in the popular tavern restaurant, which meant we didn't have to go out foraging for food on the rainy night, at least. It was an early night with a book, though, as we could only pick up three channels on the tv.
The service at check-in and in the restaurant was cheery and helpful.
The room charge was not the greatest value of all time but I couldn't see too many other lower priced options in Strahan, so supply and demand probably kicks in there.

I stayed In Regatta, with my family for just one night and we had very nice experience. Lady on reception was great, her smile was just what we needed after whole day driving. Rooms are clean, spacious and with everything what you need, and the view is amazing.
