Going with tripadvisor reviews, We stayed in the 'Platypus Spa Cabin'. The reviews were right it was a cosy, private cabin due to the balcony opening onto a little creek rather than looking at the neighbours cabin. But the price was too much and the cabin needed some maintenance, which we reported. The position of the Holiday Park is good because it is in a quiet area and away from the main shops etc. its an easy walk to all the attractions.

Room Tip: 'The Platypus spa Cabin'

For an average park, it's expensive at $39 per night for a powered site. Facilities are satisfactory without being flash. There isn't a lot of choice in Strahan so you get what you get. It's not a Big4 any more so the advertising is downright confusing.

We had a 3 bed room cabin just outside the park. It was clean and the beds were ok the managers friendly but the place need big money spent on it. The bathroom would not pass Health and Safety no rails for the older clients to step into the spa to have a shower which is in the spa. I would never stay there again and I would not refer it to friends. The owner needs to step up to the plate and spend some of the money he gets by charging expensive fees.

Room Tip: Just find somewhere else

We phoned through looking for a powered site on our way from Hobart. Luckily they were able to accomodate us on an odd site at the end of some cabins, as all other sites were full.
The toilets and showers were in seperate blocks which was really unusual and took a bit of getting used to.
The showers were ok, heaps of hot water, but some of the cubicles were a bit tight.

The park is very conveniently located, a 10 minute walk along the water to the main street area.

It was very expensive for a caravan park, but I guess that is the luxury of being in a remote location.

We stayed at the Strahan Holiday Park for three nights - we were allocated a family cabin (for the two of us)

Please note accommodation in Strahan is EXPENSIVE

The cabin had all the mod con's expected - and everything worked well. the facilities in our cabin met all standards expected

The beds were comfortable and the cabin was light. airy and the area extremely quiet a night

During our stay our cabin door lock failed - but this was quickly repaired by the friendly and helpful handy man - who loved to have a chat! (as I do!)

The staff were extremely helpful - even offering a discount on the cabin rate - if we had the right card (seniors concession) - which we did have . This was offered without asking

Strahan was our base for travelling around the west coast of Tasmania - we did a cruise on the Gordon River, rode the West Coast Wilderness railway.

If you are after plain and simple accommodation alternatives then the Holiday Park is a good choice and recommended.

Room Tip: Please remember this is a Holiday Park - not a hotel

I liked the "theme" of the park - built to look like it is fitting in with the bushland but that is where it stops. The powered sites are either too small or in a hard to reverse area. Amenities need a total overhaul. Not clean at all and not enough showers. Reception staff are not interested in you at all. You ask a question in regards to tourist attractions and they either say "there is a brochure over there" or go to tourist info centre". They are lucky they dont have competition. It is ok for a 2 or 3 night stay to go on cruise but that is about it. If yo have a van bigger than 18 foot dont even try.

Room Tip: Dont choose this park if your caravan is over 18 foot

Stayed in 2 bedroom Cabin had been booked "months before". However only one bedroom was made up. Other had to be made up.(by us) Cabin has "comment book" and 80% of customers made the same comment, its a WASTE of TIME having this BOOK. Cabin was clean/tidy inside, however outside and surrounds could be cleaned up - leaves, etc.

Room Tip: If you book two bedroom cabin be prepared the have to make up the second B/room.
