“Old Time Charm”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

On arrival, we were taken for a tour around the historic house by owner Mike. It was built in 1899. We stayed in the "Christina Room" with a corner spa bath. It was the first room to see the early morning sun through the beautiful bay windows decorated with Laura Ashley curtains and a white brass bed. The reverse cycle heating had been turned on prior to our arrival so the room was lovely and warm, as Strahan can be quite cool in temperature. Freshly baked blueberry muffins were given to us for afternoon tea. The room was supplied with a kettle with tea and coffee making items. There was a bar fridge in the hallway where you could get extra milk when needed. Free Wi-Fi was available. There were plenty of power points for recharging electronic devices. The continental breakfast was very filling which included a range of cereals, yoghurt, hot stewed fruit, different varieties of toast, freshly baked croissants, juice and a choice of tea or coffee. Old time music played as you ate your breakfast which set the mood of the historic house. The house is right across the street from the waters edge. It's was only a 12 minute comfortable walk to the Wharf/jetty, where the Wilderness Cruises depart from. When we departed Ormiston House, Carolyn presented us with some fresh muffins gift wrapped to eat along the roadside on our journey and we were also given a detailed map and instructions of places to see along the way to Hobart It was a great stay, lovely hosts and definitely the best place to stay in Strahan. Well recommended.

Room Tip: If you like to have a relaxing bath, the Christina Room is the one to pick.

Pleased you had a good stay and the bath was relaxing. The spa in your room together with clawfoot baths in the others are well used. I think that holidays relaxing and give you the opportunity to indulge.
Muffins are always a hit, but have to keep them away from Mike so they don't disappear before your arrive!
Thank you for your review and the supportive comments.
Christmas is almost upon us so I take this opportunity to wish you both a great season

A big beautiful historic home, with welcoming hosts and super yummy muffins! We stayed in the FO Henry room, which is massive, has a beautiful 4 poster bed, and some pretty stunning water pressure. The room and the B & B has a relaxed feel, with everything you need effortlessly provided. Carolyn and Mike were great hosts and the breakfast and take-away goodies were delicious.
Strahan was a lovely location and definitely worth including in any Tassie trip.

Room Tip: FO Henry = amazing

I had accidentally booked the incorrect date and Mike changed our booking without any problems. On arrival we were greeted with a friendly welcome by Caroline and provided with freshly baked raspberry muffins. Caroline gave us comprehensive description of the original owner and the construction of the house as well as providing us with a map and details of the village dinner recommendations. Our room was lovely and the atmosphere was warm and cozy. A delicous breakfast was provided in the room overlooking the garden. I loved the fruit compote and freshly prepared croissants. Caroline sent us on our way with more muffins for our journey and provided us with details of points of interests to stop at on our way to Hobart.

One could not ask for more when staying here. The service is fantastic. We even got a postcard when we got home and a cookie bag before we left for the road trip.Carolyn and Mike are perfect hosts and seem to think of everything. Beautiful rooms, great views from the widows lookout. A great stay, highly recommended - best B&B I've stayed in.

Room Tip: Any room, the whole house is beautiful.

All our pleasure I have to say. The house is beautiful and the story of the Henry's even better so I'm not shy in proudly sharing the story. Glad you like the cookies and am experimenting with flavour today so hope the response is as good.
kind regards

We stayed at Ormiston House for 3 nights in July, Tuesday to Friday and were both spoiled and delighted. Carolyn and Mike are the perfect hosts - kind, knowledgeable and attentive - and the house is a historic gem. From the stained glass in the front entrance to the ceiling roses in the dining area and from the very nicely appointed and snug bar/lounge to the lovely period carpet Ormiston House is a treat to be enjoyed.

We arrived on a cold and very wet winters afternoon to be treated by Mike opening the front door for us and showing us to our very pleasantly toasty room where there were fresh muffins (delicious) and the chance for a nice hot coffee (or tea). Our room was well appointed with a very nice bathroom and a comfortable bed and the opportunity to have a drink in the bar in the evening was greatly appreciated.

The house is an easy walk (a wet one given the weather when we were there !) to the pub and restaurants for dinner or just around the corner to Molly's (BYO) for fish and chips. The bottle shop next door to Molly's closes at 1830 so dine early !

All in all a most enjoyable experience with wonderful hosts in lovely B&B with great ambience.

An absolute delight. Beautiful restoration and decore. The owners, Carolyn and Mike, are warm and welcoming and peppered us with treats such as muffins on arrival and to take on the road, all beautifully presented. They have thought of every little detail to make a stay memorable. Probably our best B&B experience ever.

My partner and I stayed at Ormiston for two nights and found Carolyn and the house a delight. Carolyn greeted us on arrival and gave us some wonderful recommendations for places to eat and things to do in the area. Following Carolyn's suggestions we dined at her two favourite restaurants and found them to be very good.

Our room was large with, as expected for a house of the era, high ceilings. My only minor issue with the room was it wasn't as warm as I would have liked. I do feel the cold terribly though so this was no doubt in part my own issue but I do think more heating in Winter would be a great idea.

While the breakfasts are continental there was more than ample for us and Carolyn made a wicked hot chocolate. The lovely muffins on arrival and biscuits on departure were a wonderful touch to a great weekend in Strahan.

Your review was a wonderful way to start the day and I took your 'like to be a little warmer' comment on board and brought in the expert to over-haul. Really appreciate the heads-up. So nice you enjoyed the stay and in fact, I'm off to make more cookies now! kind regards Carolyn
