We stayed in the sawmill room which was one of two units near the water about 50 meters from the main complex , I believe they were spa units. The room had fantastic views of the bay and a Verandah to enjoy the surprisingly warm and sunny weather . There was a good lounge room if the weather wasn't as nice to enjoy the view. The decor is a little dated but the view made up for it. It is a 5- 10 minute easy walk to town and to the Gordon river cruises . It was unfortunate that the two nights we booked the chef was sick so we weren't able to enjoy the restaurant - we ate at the pub which was busy but had good meals and the other night 42 degrees on the hill for Tapas which had a great view of a bay on a balmy night

My partner and I took my father on a road trip around Tasmania in late November, 2013 to celebrate his 70th birthday. Risby Cove in Strahan, was our first stop and was so great that is spoiled the rest of our trip, as we didn't want to leave and longed to be back there, everywhere else we went!
From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly and accommodating - even giving dad a little gift for his 70th. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with fabulous, relaxing water views. Friendly and inquisitve ducks share the property, offering hours of entertainment. The onsite restaurant offered a great breakfast and each room comes with chocolates and port - making the nights just that little more comfortable! We highly recommend a stay at Risby Cove and look forward to a return visit ourselves!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, our second floor, 2 bedroom apartment overlooked the water, it was beautiful and very peaceful. Most of the other units seemed to be ground floor. There are ducks that like to be fed and quite a few birds flying around. It is just a short drive into town from this hotel.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days and loved it, very rustic. Who would think of turning an old Boatshed into a wonderful holiday cabin. It somehow works. Very easy to relax here and the ducks coming every day for scraps is fun. But oh my! The wind, it would knock the socks off an old sailor. Anyway still a great place to stay.

Well maintained motel-style rooms in a cosy, modern venue. We arrived late evening which wasn't a concern. Check in was handled professionally by friendly staff at the on site restaurant. Truly stunning views over the local harbour from most rooms. The restaurant was more than happy to accommodate motel guests. The food was of an outstanding quality given the remote location. Staff were friendly. The owner was warm in her welcome as we prepared to depart the following morning. This place is a hidden gem that deserves the top ratings it gets on TripAdvisor. We wish we'd stayed a second night in Strahan as there's more to do here than the Wilderness Railway.

Thank you to Sheilagh & Risby Cove team for helping to make our stay at Risby Cove so enjoyable.
We were greeted well on arrival and really appreciated the amazing views the Jetty room had to offer. Our room was very comfortable and the additional touch of complementary chocolates & Port was much appreciated. We were fortunate to make a reservation at the restaurant as both nights seemed extremely popular. We had a beautiful meal and the service was excellent ,well done!
The following day we had a great trip on The Gordon river, Shielagh arranged all of this and we were not
disappointed.we would have no hesitation to recommend Risby Cove

Risby Cove is the perfect setting for a hotel. Our room looked straight out on to the river and across the harbour to the village. Better still were the sunsets with colours you can usually only imagine from postcards.

Our room was well appointed with a large living room, small kitchenette, bathroom with spa bath and a comfy bed. There is plenty of hanging space for clothes but not much in the way of drawer space. There was complimentary chocolate, port, coffee, tea and milk all replenished daily.

On site facilities include a free guest laundry (washing machine and dryer) and an art gallery. There is also a speedboat trip which leaves from the mooring in front of the hotel which is well worth the money. Also of note is the Gordon River trip and the daily play "The Ship that never was". A little further afield is the Pioneers Museum at Zeehan - a good half day option particularly if the weather isn't so good.

The restaurant serves good food at breakfast and dinner although the service can be erratic and very slow but the food is certainly worth waiting for. The English Rarebit (Cheese on Toast) is a must for breakfast as is the French Toast and the evening menu leaves you spoilt for choice - and leave room for a yummy dessert.

The on-site owner provides you with lots of local info on check-in and both check-in and check-out were efficient.
