The RSL is always a friendly and comfortable place to finish the day after exploring the East Coast. Good refreshing beers and wholesome food was greatly appreciated- as was being able to walk to and from the motel.

Thank fran s

There are very few places in Swansea that open for dinner. We had been told by locals and staff at the visitor's centre that the RSL Bistro was good value and served good meals, so we decided to try it, since the other dine-in restaurants, The Saltshaker and Bark Mill Tavern, were booked out. Disappointingly, when we arrived at the RSL, the girl behind the bar told us that it wasn't open for dinner that night, which seemed odd because it was a Weekend night, especially considering the few places that are actually open. The locals and visitor's centre staff obviously thought it would be open, and there were no signs outside to indicate it was closed. The Bistro is simply part of the main public area in the RSL - the public bar's at one end of the room with a pool table, and the Bistro is at the other end. We ended up at The Ugly Duck Out takeaway, just down the road, where we bought delicious meals to take back to our holiday cottage. I'd definitely recommend that particular takeaway. You can also dine inside there, or sit outside on the deck overlooking the water, in good weather. Next time we're in Swansea, we'll head to The Ugly Duck Out, first. It was great value for money, and they have a huge variety on their menu, which also caters for vegetarian and the like, if you wish. Some of the items on the menu were of a Middle Eastern style, and the food we chose was cooked to perfection. Compliments to The Ugly Duck Out chef.

We visited with a group of 7 at dinner time during the peak Christmas Hoildays period. We only just found seating and once we ordered we were told that there would be a 30 min wait for meals. We appreciated the warning but the time passed quickly. We tried the chicken schnitzel, Caesar salad, mixed grill and beef burger. All were generously sized and reasonably priced. With so many holiday makers creating a hub bub, there was a great atmosphere and the view was lovely.

We tried visiting a second time during our stay, this time in the new year, but it was even busier! We couldn't find a seat this time round - disappointing but also not unexpected given the timing. I'm sure during off peak times you'd have no problem getting in.

We dined here on our first night in Swansea as the lady at the visitor centre talked highly of the meals they served. She also said that it's "not like your typical RSL" so, we gave it a go. We ate at the bistro end of the RSL and my first thought was how plain and bland it was. It was as if they set up chairs and tables in the middle of a white community hall. We also weren't greeted upon entering. We proceeded to the counter where we ordered out meal and didn't even score a smile from the waitress. We were the only diners at the time and so, the only plus is that our meals came reasonbly quick - within 20-30 mins. Our garlic bread had been microwaved, you can tell by the texture of the bread. My husband's parmi was topped with canned diced tomato, and my steak was burnt!! I usually don't mind my steak well done but not when it tastes like charcoal! The steamed veg on my plate had black 'charcoaly' oil and bits on it. And it was hard and gritty. It was very overpriced for the quality poor quality. 28 buck for the steak and 24 bucks for the parmi - you'd usually get a decent feed for that price anywhere else. Sadly, not so in this particular occasion. Very very disappointed.

Sitting in the enclosed verandah was great considering the poor weather. In summer this would be a great venue. Heater swarmed the area up. Food is very goos, reasonably priced and very large.
