“Lovely historical house”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

Sadly the owners were away due to an illness in the family but Helen, Gail's sister was there to help us out. We missed out on the advertised breakfast but paid a much reduced rate because of this. We still enjoyed the room, the gardens and the assortment of animals and chooks. Well appointed room and great DVD library.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the downstairs garden room which was spacious and had lovely views of the garden.

We are so sorry we missed you.
Unfortunately Nige's brother was not well and we had to leave quite suddenly. We were so lucky and grateful that Helen offered to look after Redcliffe House for us especially with little or no notice, and she has done a great job too. It is so hard to leave your business in the hands of someone else.
Thank you for your review and we hope that you will return one day and try Nige's breaky.
Cheers

Stayed here for one night back in April while holidaying with my mother, gorgeous B&B with everything you need. Our room upstairs was very large and comfortable, the interiors are kept really nice and tidy with a country touch. There were other guests but it was extremely private, we really enjoyed our very short stay and would stay again!

Thanks for taking the time to pass on some feedback about our property, We are so glad to hear that you and your mum enjoyed your stay with us here at Redcliffe House. In particular we are delighted to hear that you thought your room was nice and private and you liked the country feel as this is what we are trying to achieve.
We'd be more than delighted to welcome you back if you ever decide to return to the area.
Cheers Gail and Nige

The owners obviously spent a lot of time and effort restoring and maintaining the place. Its a pretty big property, so maintaining it is probably not easy. The host was friendly and showed us around the place, introducing the farm animals to us and cooking us huge and delicious breakfasts over the 2 days we were there. The part I enjoyed most was playing with the baby geese running around the garden, and spotting a hare from the window in the morning.

The not-so-good bits: I found our room a bit creepy. We had the Garden room, which was one of the 2 original rooms built by convicts. It was a bit over-decorated in my opinion and the huge paintings added to my runaway imagination. So much so I couldn't get a good night's sleep. Maybe it's just me, coz S slept through the night. The estate was also at an awkward location along the highway, and requires a sharp turn to access it.

Thank you for your review.
yes we have spent a lot of time and effort restoring Redcliffe House and the maintenance certainly keeps us busy, especially keeping our gardens looking beautiful, but we do enjoy it.
We do try to please all of our guests and make their stay with us memorable and are sorry to hear that you were uncomfortable in our garden room as it is our most popular room, and no one before you has not enjoyed the room and it's history.
Our driveway does come upon you rather quickly as it is on a bend, but it is fine in day light hours, but if guests arrive at night after our preferred 6pm checkin then yes it is a little hard to see even though we have a street light at the beginning of the drive. We do live in the country and the nights are very black, but the stars are amazing.
Anyway we are glad you enjoyed Nige's breaky but sad your stay was not as enjoyable as we like our guests to leave us with happy memories.

Most folks make a direct beeline to Freycinet National Park from Hobart, bypassing the Great Oyster Bay coast for the tourist mobs in the park. Don't make that mistake. Take some time out to enjoy the comparatively quiet coves and hidden beaches along the road to Freycinet.

The perfect place to stay while exploring? Redcliffe House. Tucked away from the road, the house is more like a rural homestay. The house is cozy, surrounded by acres of orchard and gardens and guarded by a sheep named Bobby. The rooms feel like the guest rooms in your stylish aunt's house. The breakfast is large, filling, and delicious. The innkeepers are friendly and have top notch advice for tourists.

Best of all: location. You're equidistant from Maria Island National Park and Freycinet National Park... and for the antiquing crowd, you're not too far away from Ross and Oatlands in the middle of the island. A few kilometers south, you've got Kate's Berry Farm (with its sublime ice cream and even more sublime scones and jam).

If you don't want to explore, park yourself on the porch and watch Bobby chomp the grass in the orchard.

The property is a lovely heritage house. Our room was upstairs with a landing outside. Beautifully furnished, large room and a comfortable bed. Very small TV and a weak internet signal. There was a bad smell on arrival so I opened all the windows but it did not clear it. We realised it was coming from the shower drain. Such a pity, it did spoil the overall atmosphere. The couple who own the house are lovely and we enjoyed a delicious home cooked breakfast. Best scrambled eggs we have ever tasted. There are free range chooks and ducks and lovely gardens. A pet ram is very shy and lots of parrots in the various trees.

Room Tip: As you look at the house do not choose the room to the left upstairs unless the drain has been clean...

Converted heritage house has a great country/farmstay feel
Close enough to surrounding towns to be convenient while still 'remote' enough to be a countryside experience
Lovely hosts who went out of their way

The Redcliffe House property is something different from the sometimes sterile hotels you normally stay in. The host, Gail, was super friendly and full of smiles, so you definitely feel comfortable and welcome. We originally booked for the small room, but Gail gave us an upgrade to the larger room since it wasn't being used anyway, which was a great surprise! The decor in this house is beautiful, with little things to make it feel very homely.

The property has a broad collection of DVDs to borrow, along with books, but what I liked most was the garden around the property. They have a vineyard with a lot of chickens and ducks waddling around, plus a random sheep! It was great to wake up and go for a little stroll and see them roaming around.

Location wise - it's a bit further out from the main Swansea town, so you won't be able to walk around to restaurants or the town centre. But it's only a short drive away.

The only unpleasant note would be that there was a slight "toilet" smell in the room, coming from the ensuite bathroom. I'm not sure if this is normal as they use a septic tank? It is noticeable, but not that bad as we simply closed the bathroom door when not using it.
