The Days Inn at Huber Heights is a classic motel, not a hotel. The entrance to the ground floor rooms are a few feet away from the driveway. The doors open out and the decor and age of the motel shows. The layout is like an efficiency with cramped chairs and tables and a sink in the same area with the toilet off to the side. The particular room I was in had the door frame detaching from the wall as a result of some past daring event I assumed - not reassuring for my sense of safety.
I usually stay at the Hampton Inn in Huber Heights, just across the Troy Pike - but reservations were hard to come by with some big event in Dayton and the Days Inn was a choice I picked from having stayed earlier at Huber Heights - a short drive on I-70 from Dayton International.
The hotel's non-smoking room was quite smelly with old cigarette smoke probably leached from the other rooms. I had a difficult night and had to leave the fan running all night to prevent the smell of the smoke rising up from the carpet and bed clothes in the warm room.
The location is excellent - a couple of minutes to get on or off I-70. The complimentary breakfast was a set of muffins, cold boiled eggs, bread slices, soggy waffles, orange juice, coffee, gravy and biscuits. The hot part was the gravy - the rest you had to toast or reheat.
There are stores close by in th emall adjoining the motel - especially the Krogers where you can fix yourself with some food you can buy. The refrigerator in my room had been turned off with the cord hanging outside waiting for someone to plug it in and wait for 4 hours for the fridge to cool down. There are plenty of fast food places close by and some finer dining across the highway though I repeated my mistake going to the El Toro for the second time with the same disappointing dining experience.
The Days Inn was a tired and tiring experience for a business traveler but if you are on the highway, looking for a place to sleep at night and take off next morning that is located next to Interstate 70, and if you have a high tolerance for the smell of cigarette smoke in the bed-covers and room carpeting, this may be just the place for you. The price was right and the experience matched the offering at the price it was offered.
For business travel in the same area, I would stick to the Hampton Inn as a compromise at a higher price between convenience and business amenity comforts.
