Captain Montague's Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 1 Huron B&B and Inns
Reviewed 5 June 2014

We only had one night to spend at Captain Montague's B&B but it was awesome. We were warmly greeted by Judy when we arrived in the afternoon. After checking in we had a little tour and a bit of history. We asked for suggestions for places to eat, hike and shop. We followed her suggestions and were so happy that we did. Our room was just beautiful as was the rest of the house. It is such a peaceful and calm retreat. Breakfast was delicious. There were snacks available and a wonderful choice of teas. It was just so nice to get away to such a welcoming place. I can't think of anything else that Judy could have done to make it better. I highly recommend Captain Montague's, you will love it. Thank you, Judy for a great stay.

Room Tip: Every room is unique and so cozy and beautiful.

We enjoyed our stay at Captain Montague's very much! We were greeted by Judy and given a tour and information on the history of the B&B. The rooms are beautiful and tastefully decorated. There are two lovely sitting rooms, a beautiful dining room and a kitchen for the guests' use. We had the Jenny room/Anniversary Suite. It was so nice and comfortable. The bathroom was awesome with an antique soaking tub, a walkin shower with two shower heads and an unique sink and vanity. The bed was very comfortable and we had a great night's rest. Judy was so very helpful with our weekend plans. She had a lot of information and directions for all the local activities. Everything we did was within five miles of the B&B. It is just a short walk to Lake Erie and a bit longer to Huron Lighthouse. Breakfast was delicious! We had fruit served beautifully, quiche, muffins, a breakfast scone, juice and coffee. There were snacks available whenever you wanted them including some delicious homemade brownies. We could not have asked for anything more! We loved every minute!

My husband and I just returned from my birthday weekend at Captain Montague's Bed and Breakfast which my husband arranged. This was our second experience staying at the bed and breakfast. It is truly a place where life flows at a very peaceful pace. We stayed in the "Edith" room and it was just delightful! It was bright, airy & warm - just what we were hoping for. Our bed was so cozy & comfortable & we slept so soundly. This bed & breakfast is clean as a whistle and decorating just beautifully. Judy prepares your breakfast each morning and they are always delicious, unique and satisfying. We always look forward to our stay at Captain Montague's...always. Not only did we have a beautiful bedroom & bath, we also had access to the kitchen and beautiful sitting room with television & fireplace (we thoroughly enjoyed sitting here in the evening and watching TV or reading.

And we saved the best part of our review for last, Judy, the owner. She is such a sweet, genuine lady! If you have any questions about the area, restaurants, shops, Judy will guide you in the right direction that's for sure. She always makes us feel so welcome and we want for nothing during our stay. We are blessed to have her as our friend & we cannot wait to go back again soon.

Room Tip: We have stayed in 2 different rooms and both of them were wonderful!

We travelled from Perrysburg to Huron for a two night stay at Captain Montegue's. We enjoyed everything about it. The house is beautiful and very comfortable. There is a kitchen to use and snacks set out for guests. The breakfasts were delicious and we really enjoyed talking with Judy. We really enjoyed hearing about the history of the building and the work they have put into it. We highly recommend this charming B & B if you will be in the Huron area!! Thank you!

Room Tip: There are six rooms. We stayed in the Captain's room. It was perfect. I don't think there...

We consider ourselves experienced B&B patrons and when 2 prices are listed the higher is normally for the weekend rate. We chose a Thursday stay and asked for a room (135-155) at the 135 rate. Nothing was said at this time regarding the rate. There was no confirmation and we had to place a 50.00 deposit which was also charged up front. On our arrival Mike informed us tha rate was 155 because it was the in season rate. So while it was listed at 135-155 the rate of 155 was for every day. When I asked Mike about our refund, his reply was that Judy was not in and she handles that. We found out weeks later that our deposit was forfeited because we cancelled our stay. The fact is our stay was refused at the rate we thought we were to be charged. Had Mike informed us then & there that we would lose our 50.00 deposit we would have stayed and paid the extra 20.00 versus losing 50.00..So BEWARE.

Judy and Mike are gracious and personable hosts. They make guests feel at ease in this beautifully restored home. We were in town for a wedding and were happy to make this B&B part of a celebratory weekend. Judy and Mike were glad to share the interesting history of the home. Knowing how it began, what transformations it has undergone over the years and how Judy and Mike meticulously restored and decorated it made us feel even more grateful to have the opportunity to enjoy it! We felt comfortable the moment we stepped in the door. The environment is elegant and comfortable at the same time. Our room "The Captain's Quarters" was relaxing and well equipped for comfort; soothing lighting, great "thistle" color (good job Mike!), interesting antique fixtures and decor, comfy bed, soft robes and wonderfully clean as well. Breakfast was delicious and so pleasurable to enjoy in the beautiful dining room. Afterwards, we headed to the gorgeous beach to enjoy some crisp, fresh air, feeling grateful for our weekend away. Thank you Judy and Mike! We will be happy to recommend your B&B and hope to return ourselves! Suzy and Mike

My family lost our sister last spring and wanted to all stay close by each other over the funeral weekend. Judy and Mike couldn't have been more wonderful to us. They reserved the entire house for us so we had our privacy and it felt just like home. They were both thoughtful and kind. The rooms are very large and comfortable. We had everything we needed. The breakfasts were delicious. We can't thank them enough for helping us make it through a very difficult time.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Captain Montague's...old world charm meets modern day luxury. Built in an era of romanticized Great Lakes history, this was once home to Captain C.Z. Montague and his family. Boasting seven fireplaces, original burled wood pocket doors throughout the common areas, and a stunning hand-crafted black walnut staircase, the Victorian flavor of this home was enhanced by the craftsmanship of local shipbuilders. Extensive, careful interior updating has resulted in a comfortable and modern home that you will beckon you to relaxation. Each of our rooms are quite private and very quiet and all come with their own private baths. Captain Montague's spans an entire block in the historic, lakefront community of Old Plat in Huron, Ohio. It is located just two short blocks from Lake Erie in the Old Plat portion of the original village that remains. ... more   less
