We just needed an overnighter on our way from MI to Ohio and Captain Montagues fit the bill.
Judy was an excellent hostess and waited up for us for a late check in. I loved that her breakfast went til 10am and it was delicious! I didn't need to eat until later that day. Everything was just as I had expected from a well run B&B that has been in business for many years - I can tell she still enjoys hosting people!

Room Tip: There is not a bad room in the house.

My husband and I spent a couple of nights at Captain Montague's as we both lived/worked in the area several years ago. Captain Montague's is a delightful place to stay. The house has a lot of character and a beautiful gazebo and pool outside. Judy and Gretchen were superb hostesses serving up an elegant breakfast. As for the location, it is located right by the Huron boat basin that has concerts every Saturday in the summer. Some people only spent a night, but we spent two. That was the way to go as there is a lot of activities in surrounding areas in Vermillion and Sandusky.

Our stay at Captain Montague's in Huron, Ohio was delightful!!! Our room was very comfortable and clean with its own bath. The homemade breakfast was delicious and consisted of fresh fruit, juice, a main stay and a wonderful sweet treat. The pool was very clean and surrounded by nice patio seating for relaxing. The owner, Judy Tann, is very knowledgeable of the surrounding areas and the many activities that you can enjoy. It is close to a boat basin which often has musical entertainment in the evenings free of charge. The nearby towns/cities of Vermilion and Norwark have nice shops. The Huron Playhouse just up the street from Captain Montagues is well known for its very talented productions in the summer. We enjoyed a wonderful play while there last weekend. This B and B is wonderful for a couple or group of adults. We will return to this charming place.

My husband and I had the good fortune to make a quick return trip to Huron OH recently, after visiting twice last summer. How pleased we were that Judy at Captain Montague's B&B had room for us on a busy summer weekend! This time we had the incredible luck to book the "Jenny" room or Anniversary Suite - which is a very large, attractive upstairs bedroom with a fireplace, sitting area, and beautifully renovated en suite bathroom.

Captain Montague's has become a favorite of ours, owing as much to the gracious hospitality as to the quality of the accommodations. We are welcomed like old friends. The rooms and public areas are all lovely; the breakfast is delicious; the Lake Erie area is an enjoyable destination. It lives up to every expectation and has our highest recommendation!

We stayed the fourth of July weekend at Judy's lovely home and had a great weekend. We actually came in for the NHRA race in Norwalk and wanted to stay somewhere nice for the times we were not at the track. The town is small, but packed with water walkways, beaches, dinner options on the river - etc. Everything is close by. The Inn has a very nice pool and breakfast every morning was fantastic. Judy is amazing keeping the large mansion together and being available as a friendly host when you need her. We highly recommend Captain Montague's!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Molly room - first floor - very nice.

My wife and I recently stayed at Captain Montague's for five days four nights and found it to be exceptionally clean and accommodating. Judy is a wonderful hostess with great stories and she is very knowledgeable about Huron and the surrounding areas. There are many things to do in the area with Cedar Point and the Islands near by. The breakfasts are exceptional, well planned and always filling. The house is beautifully decorated and in very good condition. The wood work is a combination of warm colors and masterful hand carving. the galley kitchen (guest kitchen) was clean and well stocked. We used the pool each day and found it to be clean and relaxing. The deck and pool house were well equipped with chairs and tables. Judy's assistant Gretchen ensured that our room (the Molly room) was always clean and made up. Gretchen also ensured that our breakfasts were serve promptly and with a smile. My wife and I look forward to our next trip to Ohio as we know exactly where we will stay Captain Montague's. Thanks for a wonderful relaxing stay..

Room Tip: The Molly room offers a large and very comfortable King size bed.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Captain Montague's...old world charm meets modern day luxury. Built in an era of romanticized Great Lakes history, this was once home to Captain C.Z. Montague and his family. Boasting seven fireplaces, original burled wood pocket doors throughout the common areas, and a stunning hand-crafted black walnut staircase, the Victorian flavor of this home was enhanced by the craftsmanship of local shipbuilders. Extensive, careful interior updating has resulted in a comfortable and modern home that you will beckon you to relaxation. Each of our rooms are quite private and very quiet and all come with their own private baths. Captain Montague's spans an entire block in the historic, lakefront community of Old Plat in Huron, Ohio. It is located just two short blocks from Lake Erie in the Old Plat portion of the original village that remains. ... more   less
